My bigger issue was you calling him a sixty point guy tbh. I’m not happy with his progress on d but Barry never gave him a chance to prove himself.

Over the past 4 seasons Barzal is 30th among centers in points per game. 45th in goals. Its not exactly a hot take. I said he was a very high end 2C. Personally, I subscribe to the theory of scarcity that would indicate there aren’t enough number 1 centers in the league for every team to have one (otherwise, there wouldn’t be so many bad teams). I think he’s somewhere in the 25 range league wide, which for me pushes him into the high end 2C category.

Tons of players play in a defensive system. Thats a lame excuse. Its not like barzal is a selke guy. Over the course of four seasons with that system he was an even +/-. Generally thats not the best stat, but with a sample size that big its worth noting.

You just did a very poor job of it. You selected one outlier season. I’m going of four seasons, which represents like 80% of barzals career.

You can look at point totals and make whatever ridiculous comparison you want. Barzal was a PPG his rookie year. Part of that was having Tavares and part of that was the Islanders we’re actually trying to score that year.
