While I don’t see the jets moving on from scheifele and Wheeler next year, there are many other changes that will be made for sure in my opinion. Despite Schiefele’s comments, I don’t think he wants out. I think he’s simply expressing his frustration in how the season went, and that he did not like player under Lowry (as he has hinted at before). While you assistant captain not buying into the system isn’t good, you also can’t say the jets had much of a system. They were as inconsistent as Laine’s goal scoring. So his frustration is understandable. While I don’t agree with what he said, I also don’t think that is enough for the jets to want to move him. A bonafide Point per game 1c is hard to come by. I think he gets a year to figure it out first, like the rest of this team.
1) New coaching staff. The only one who is safe is wade flaherty. Also, reports are coming now that it’s going to be a complete overhaul outside of flaherty.
My candidates for replacement are Pascal Vincent, Randy Carlyle, Peter Deboer (assuming he gets let go by Vegas), Alain Vigneault among others. I personally like Deboer, Carlyle, and Vigneault.
My changes would be Alain Vigneault as head coach, Randy Carlyle and pascal Vincent as assistants (assuming Columbus let’s him go). I think Carlyle would be interested in the assistant job because it has been a few years since he was head coach, but his defensive systems and ties to Winnipeg make him a good choice regardless. However, his style of play is a little outdated in my opinion, so if he’s willing to come on as assistant coach, that would be great.
2) Make room on D for young guys.
From what I’ve heard from kings fans, Schmidt looks like the type of player they are looking for. A top 4, puckmoving d-man who is solid in his own end. On the flip side, the jets make room for young guys like heinola and kovacevic.
3) Give certain players a change of scenery. That means Stanley, Vesalainen go.
4) Empower new leadership core of JoMo, connor and Dubois. Ie, give dubois an A, make JoMo captain, and bump Wheeler down to an A.
1. New coaching staff- yes. Too bad Hawerchuk is no longer with us.
2. + 5. Bring in the youth on D and improve the 1st pairing RHD. I would be willing to increase the offer for Severson if Severson is available.
3. Let go of some players for change of scenery. If we can get a decent return only though.
4. Would be interesting to see how Scheifele and Wheeler react to the change of captains.

Exactly. Couldn’t agree more. It would more be a matter of getting a new voice involved, rather than replacing Wheeler. Like the sharks did with thornton

If a team would be interested in Wheeler, the Jets would have to retain. If the retained amount is half ($4.125 mil), can the Jets find someone with experience and a player who still produces like Wheeler for $4.125 mil?

Well, you can’t replace point per game production for that cheap. But you could just move around the letters and add one to dubois. Easy, new voice and new captain, without hurting Wheeler or schiefele.
This team probably misses the playoffs or scrapes in and gets knocked out in round one.
Seems like there's just too much turmoil with this organization, its just one tire fire after another, really seeming like ownership is too involved and Chevy can't get this team to the next level for a few reasons but some of them are of his own making.
If they don't get their 💩 together soon it won't be long and they'll be the Houston Jets, not one sellout this year apparently and people can't give tickets away, yikes!
"2022 2nd round pick (BUF)
Teams love big 6’7 d-men. Probably not a high 2nd but u think he can get a second." Yes!
Unfortunately Buffalo does not need LHD so your corrections is spot on.
Buffalo may give up the highest 2023 second (latest in the round) or some other team would do similar.
Big players take longer to develop, and defensemen take even longer.
Dahlin and Thompson are prime examples.
Rasmus is finally demonstrating the skills which made him a consensus 1st OA.
Thompson finally had a break out season.
IMO it would be a folly to give up on him for only a late second.

Well, the alternative is watching him become the 7th d-man. In which case he’s not developing. Hence I decided to move him.
