Trading their 1st next year is a really bad idea, and not to mention the 1st this year from Arizona is going to be a top 4 pick regardless

If I'm an Arizona fan, I'd keep my 2023 pick instead because Bedard will likely be much better than Wright.

Yeah there’s virtually no point in trading it because they’re going to get a top 5 pick this year and be bad next year too. So will Montreal for that matter.

Also, Montreal can trade Weber’s contract to a contender to expand their LTIR pool and get more than a prospect.

no montreal cant do that. Weber's contract doesnt create new LTIR space his cap hit counts during the offseason and you have to be no more than 10% over the cap with his contract included so it provides zero benefit to anyone other than a team who wants to keep his full caphit on the books since he is owed a lot less than the cap hit, it will help them reach the floor and save some money.

As for the picks i'm sure that the entire management team in Arizona would get fired if that deal went through. Trade two top 5 picks for one 1OA and a late doesnt make sense. Arizona will be near the bottom again next year so that could turn into trading Cooley and Bedard, for Wright and a late first...

Montreal doesn't need to trade Weber.

Look at what Vegas tried to do with Dadonov, they gave up a 2nd, that could have become a first, for guys to throw on LTIR and get under the cap. The Canadiens would take on a cap dump (or semi-serviceable player) and get a pick and/or prospect for Weber's contract for a team to put on LTIR. There's more value in trading the biggest piece of free real estate to a team looking for LTIR relief than to a cap floor team (who could take on dumps and picks for no assets lost).

Its not the same thing, If arizona takes on cap dumps to reach the floor they will have a payroll equal to the cap floor. Weber is only due a fraction of his cap hit meaning they save the rest. Weber is due 3 mil next season and 1mil each of the remaining years after but has a cap hit of 7.85mil each year. That means Arizona saves around 4.8 mil next season and 6.8 mil on their payroll. Thats where the most value is in weber. Dadanov is not comparable in any way to webers contract. Otherwise MTL keeps weber until he eventually retires or maybe something present itself with Nashville to avoid the recapture penalty they will be hit with if he retires early. Also another factor is that webers contract is a big sore spot for the league because of how aggressively front loaded it was, they re worked the cap after it was sign to avoid circumventions so there may be further hurdles to overcome with his LTIR eligibility.
