Description

First AHL Call Ups:

FWD: Barron, Brooks, Reichel, Malott, Poganski

DEF: Samberg, Kovacevic, Chisholm

GOA: Berdin

I know a lot of Jets fan won't agree with this roster but I truly think they need to give it one more shot with this squad after a complete coaching change.

A few key points:

-Traded Vesalainen for Alex True (Nikolaj Ehlers cousin)

-A lot of fans want to see Samberg up full time next year in Dillon's spot. Samberg has been great with the big club as well so I wouldn't be opposed to moving Dillon. Nothing against Dillon either, I like him on the Jets. My personal choice would be to keep him around next year and trade him either at the deadline or offseason dependent on development of our young defencemen.

-Traded for Reaves to add some grit/personality to this team. Winnipeg boy who can add that little flair in the room (similar to Big Buff).

Both Heinola and Samberg have to play next year or be traded, I would even play Kovacevic as the 3RHD.

I'd be happy with this, I don't know whether the Jet's have many more options other than to go back to the well with the same group. I think they could get rid of Dillon/Demelo for some value, but I don't think many teams would take Schmidt with that cap hit.

Personally I think they need a Copp like replacement player for the third line. To me the Jet's were at their best when Copp/Lowry/Tanev were a grinding physical, fast, third line that would play against the other teams top lines. Seems like the Jet's have been missing that a little bit.

My only potential move would be to move on from one defenseman with a bit of a cap hit and bring in some more forward depth.

Very sensible roster and probably a winning group with a whole new coaching staff with new systems. I doubt they'd be a cup contender though. I worry about that bottom six being an offensive hole again and that could be a shaky 2nd line. Scheifele needs some motivation, Wheels-while still productive-is slowing down, and Perfetti hasn't played much, so jumping into a 2nd line might be overwhelming. Maybe he can be a 3C until he gets his confidence up? Not really sure what this team does or where they go. Interesting offseason for sure.

Samberg is a very similar player than Dillon except he's a better skater with more offensive, so lets just get picks back for Dillon and insert Heinola and Samberg in the lineup.

I like the thought of adding a Reaves type to the 4th line, have thought for quite some time that they could use a guy like that.

No Copp or Stastny to fill in at center would really hurt if some injuries hit.

Not trying to crap on your thoughts here but this squad would roughly be in the same situation as it is this year, Wheeler managed to get his point totals up but his decline is obvious, that bottom six still won't be able to score to save its life which has again been a major issue this season.

I don't think they need to blow it up but it they want to get back into the playoffs next season and be anything more than a first round exit there needs to be some substantial moves made, running it back next season with mostly the same group is just a wasted season imo.
