If Scheifele moves out the Jets would need a top 6 center, preferably right shot, coming back or a top 4 right shot, RHD coming back.

Either young roster players or prospects that have the potential to fill that bill.

I just don't think you're gonna get either a legit top 6 C or top 4 RD coming back if you move him. Maybe if he was younger & signed long term.

Ryan Johnson does have top 4D potential though. He's a lefty but has played RD in college. He's a good prospect.

id say he’s still in his prime and has been ppg his entire career. will have 2 years left at a steal of a cap hit. it will give a contending team 2 very series shots at winning the cup, I think that’s pretty valuable.

would have to start with Cozens and Vegas 22’ first for BUF or the jets will just keep him or trade elsewhere

Really, the Jets couldn't get a 2nd pair caliber RHD for Scheifele? A PPG center signed for 2 years $6.125M has gotta be worth at least that.

It just doesn't work for Winnipeg. The Jets aren't in a position where they are being forced to trade Scheifele, so if that's all they can get, they probably just keep him. If he asks for a trade, that's a different story.

A contending team isn't gonna move a legit top 4 RD or top 6 C for a guy that's older and isn't signed long term. That's just not gonna happen. They want to add to their team. It would be picks + prospects.

Would you do Perfetti + 13th pick for Kuznetsov?

If you do move on from him the summer I feel like you're gonna be disappointed.

Kuznetsov is a terrible comparable. He's only been point per game or close to it in 3 of the last 6 years and has a horrible contract. Scheifele has been PPG 6 straight years, including his bad year this season and is almost $1.7 mil/season less.

Scheifele is unquestionably better.

Scheifele is better but Kuz is not that far off. Kuz has more term, while Scheifele is cheaper. You are never going to get a perfect comparison.

I was going to say Zibs but he's signed long term now.

How about would you do Perfetti + 13th pick as a starting point for 2 years of Zibs at 6.1M?

That's probably fair value or close to it, but if the Jets still have Scheifele they have no reason to look for anything like that.

Teams would easily pay a late first, and probably a first plus (granted the first is later) for a similar rental at the TDL, so for two years, it's not an outrageous ask.

That would be fair value if Zibs was signed long term, but for 2 years you'd be getting fleeced. I don't think any team would do that. A blue chip young guy + a high first + for a guy that can walk in 2 years.

That would be more than any player has gotten recently in a trade under similar circumstances.

If we wanted Kuznetsov then yeah that'd be the cost, good players cost good assets to acquire.

These takes are ridiculous, reminds me of Habs fans and their gawd awful Laine trade proposals and telling me you'll have to take what you can get cause he wants out with their offers of Domi, Hudon and a 2nd... 🤣

I don't agree. If you want a good player, it will cost you something you don't want to lose. It won't be a bunch of stuff you no longer care about.

I guess that would mean that Botterill or Adams (can't remember when the rumours were) saved Chevy from himself.

Trading Cozens would be a slap in the face to the chemistry Sabres have been building, his upside likely isn't Schiefele but he's a core member of the team itself

No but there were rumors about an Ehlers for Dumba trade then there was the Ehlers for Faulk trade that apparently almost happened, seems like there was some plans to trade him, thank gawd they didn't and if they had they would've improved the defense a bit but made a hole on the wing and the loss of one of their few play drivers so just like the Laine trade it would've just been one hole filled by creating another.

What they needed to do years ago was trade some prospects and/or draft capital to fill holes in the lineup.

Look at how bad their record is when Ehlers has been out of the lineup, they'd be in even worse shape now had they traded him, guess they'd probably be getting a lottery pick though so there'd be that at least... lol 😆

I went and looked around and there was rumour site in 2019 which referenced a Bob McKenzie comment that the Ehlers-Ristolainen would be tricky to pull off, as Buffalo would have to add one or two more assets to get the Jets to consider it. There was another rumour site that wrote in 2020 that previous proposed swaps of Risto-Hall and Risto-Ehlers were turned down by the Sabres, but they didn't cite any credible sources so I have a hard time believing that. At the end of the day, the Sabres got a 1st, 2nd and a guy so they did well at the end.

Yes, that is pretty unbelievable if those rumours are true. Dumba or especially Faulk for Ehlers. That really makes you shudder!
