Its not a hard concept, look at the box score. When you partner a bunch of AHL guys like Connaughton (-5 in less than 14 minutes), Hodgson, Brown with a bunch of rookies in their first trip to the NHL (Attard -5, Brink, York), a bunch of other guest appearances from AHLers (Willman types) and then throw in that none of the team is playing for anything and guys like McEwen, Thompson are being overplayed, and you want to lose….And then add in you’re playing a top team that’s on a roll, you get 9-2.
I never say that plus/minus is a great stat but it’s a good indicator of effort and talent on the ice when you look at ice time too. For example last night, the flyers 3rd pairing (Connaughton-Attard both were -5 in less than 15 mins) and 4th line (Thompson-Brown were -4 in less than 14 mins). That shows that they are poor in talent or in Attard’s case not ready to just partner with any scrub.
I think Provorov and Koneckny are worth more. No point in selling low.
And while hes having an awesome year, I'd rather have two very good (moveable contracts if need be) at 10mil, than Gaudreau at 10mil. This team has some good youth coming in, but one single all-star isn;t the difference.
