Placeholder team. Muzzin would need to trade his NMC to be moved. Still think a team gives up value for him cause he's a playoff-style dman. Feel like he'd be a good fit for Ottawa as a vet who helps younger players and can still play quite well. Also in Ontario which could convince him to waive NMC.

Hard pass from NSH. That's more than Kerfoot should fetch, and the Preds don't have a need for him. Just trade him straight up for Kapanen.

The reason I didn't do 1 for 1 is cause I don't think pens can afford Kerfoot's cap. I do think he should get a return like that considering the market this year. He's about to break the 50 point mark in a few games so he for sure gets something like that.

A guy that’s versatile and can play any position in the forward group in the lineup, is on pace for 55 points and getting no power play time at all (averages 4 seconds of PP time this season), kills penalties and only makes $3.5m against the cap and is only owed $750k after his $1.95m signing bonus is paid.. isn’t worth a 2nd and 4th round pick? Like Johan Larsson was just moved for a 3rd round pick and is no where near the player or value Kerfoot is.

Like come on. This comment was just pure Leafs hate than anything real talk.

      Detroit declines.

Bert isn't being traded for someone incapable of playing on the PK.

Besides no GM in their right mind is making this trade in division.

Correct. I just figured I'd pick a reason that couldn't be argued with this time.

I guess it depends on how many UFAs come back for the Pens. They have a lot of cap coming off the books in the summer, and their only RFAs of note are Kapanen and Heinen. I can't see either of those two breaking the bank.

I could see Kerfoot getting a 2nd, given his turnaround season. Or a 3rd and a 5th, if TOR really wants two picks in the return. Larsson got a 3rd at the deadline, not in the off-season - there's a big difference there. It's also worth mentioning ARZ had to retain 50% on Larsson for that return.

I see Jarnrkok as a closer comparable to Kerfoot. They're both 3rd liners who can fill in higher up the roster in a pinch, and both play all three forward positions. Kerfoot can bring a touch more offense, but Jarnkrok is better defensively. Kerfoot's a little younger, but Jarnrkok has been more consistent throughout his career. Jarnrkok went for a 2nd, 3rd, & 7th, so slightly more than @EEEEE15 wants for Kerfoot, but that's with CGY paying a trade deadline premium, and SEA retaining a million on Jarnrkok's already team-friendly cap hit of $2M. Yet the general consensus is that SEA made out like bandits.

If someone offers a 2nd and a 4th for Kerfoot in the summer, TOR should jump on that. Honestly though, he seems to have more value to the Leafs on the ice, than he could bring them in a trade for futures.

Don't automatically assume anything remotely critical regarding the Leafs is biased hatred against them. I honestly don't care about the Leafs one way or the other enough to hate them.

I think Detroit values Bertuzzi more than other teams do so I don't think he'll be traded. Value is fair. Nylander is a very good player. Just personally, I'd rather keep Bertuzzi.

You mention that Larsson was dealt at the deadline being a factor, but forget that getting Kerfoot in the off-season means you have him longer so it costs more. Also the fact that more teams are interested in the off-season so it drives the market up. Honestly, a 2nd and a 4th is light for Kerfoot given his ability, production, and contract. If Toronto was offered that (which I’m sure they’ve been offered something similar given that he’s been available and Toronto is always looking to create cap space) I guarantee Toronto turns that down. They’re likely looking at getting a prospect that’s close to NHL ready and a pick for Kerfoot. Picks alone don’t help them win, players do

Sharks are cap strapped. Why the heck would they retain that much $ for a measly 4th? Absurd.

That's the opposite of how player values typically fluctuate. Usually prices are higher at the deadline, as GMs are more likely to overpay for help when they know they're going to the playoffs, and there's a smaller pool of available players (other playoff teams typically aren't trading away contributing players). It's in the offseason when prices go down, as there are more options and willing trade partners to choose from.

Sharks are just a placeholder team I shoud've clarified that.
