Where did u see Severson doesn't want to resign in NJ? Friedman literally sent out a tweet two weeks ago stating he wants to stay. Other sources close to the team also said he would be willing to take a little bit of a hometown discount.

That Schmidt trade sucks, just get a 3rd, trading a decent asset just to move up a bit is poor asset management and Schmidt is having a decent year, should be worth a bit more then a 3rd.

Detroit will accept that offer, he's a good fit in our rebuild.

If he wants to sign in Winnipeg, why overpay for one more year? Just wait for him.

It's also pointless to throw away Schmidt for nothing.

Everything I have seen, read, heard on Severson points to an extension. If it didn’t happen, and Devils did trade him, I would hope there would be some upside coming back.

If Severson is coming to the Peg then Schmidt (and his contract) has to go. With Severson and Pionk in the top two pairings then Schmidt would be an extremely overpaid 3rd pairing dman. If you can get more for Schmidt, I am all for that but got to get rid of that contract.

My thinking was to get a better RHD in Severson and move out 2 RHD to make room for one of the young dman. If there is a good deal for Dillon then I am all for that also.

Yeah, I can understand that. I think Severson is a bit of an improvement, but he's not a game changer, so I'm kind of on the fence about the trade. I wouldn't be upset about the deal if it happened though.
