Description
My guess is that the Devils do very little at deadline. But since it is clearly a sellers market, I put together a few moves if there were aggressive in moving some guys out.

I honestly wouldn't trade one of those assets for Severson. Not because he isn't good but because we already have those players. We need better defenders.

that’s two skilled prospects and a first for severson. don’t think that package is enticing from TOR side

I don’t care if it’s a sellers market, 2 A prospects and a 1st is insane. Eichel got an A prospect, a 1st, and a top 6 forward (also gave up a 2nd but got back a 3rd from Buffalo which is practically a late 2nd so it’s not much of a value change there). At the time, Tuch was a 2nd liner making 5 mil, and I doubt his worth was that of an A prospect. You could very much debate that this return is larger than the Eichel trade lmaoo, and it’s a #2/3 d man

Eichel was an injured player at $10m/year asking for a trade. Tuch is a top-6 winger, and Krebs is much better prospect than the two guys listed here.

This is the Muzzin package. Two top-5 prospects from team’s pool plus a 1st. Severson is having better season than Muzzin was at time, plays a more scarce position (RD vs LD) and would come at half the AAV.

One skilled prospect and a 1st would be too pricey for Chiarot. But guess what?

Ok, but the prospects the Leafs gave up weren’t top prospects at the time. Both were 2nd round equivalent guys at best and at the time weren’t top 5 Maple Leaf prospects. This here is a 1st and the Leafs 2 best prospects which is insane. Not to mention that Muzzin at the time was better than Severson is now

Severson’s defensive GAR is higher than anyone on leafs now. Good case that he would be their best defensive player.

Hindsight can be misleading. They were both top-5 prospects in a Leafs pipeline that was higher ranked than it is today. And both were ranked among league-wide prospect pools similarly to the current two list above.

No, at the time Durzi and Grundstrom were not top 5 Leafs prospects. At the time Sandin and Lily were our A level prospects. That would be like trading a 1st + Sandin + Lily for Muzzin back then, which would have been ridiculous then

Hagel reset this years rental TDL market. He got 2 1sts ++. One first for each TDL. Esp is NJ retains, that is absolutely the price. Add in top RD >>> winger

Don't think Sever is a 2/3 D on the Leafs, he could be #1. I'm sure many would counter with Reilly, but he doesn't play the hard minutes Sever does, if evidenced by DZ starts ... Reilly highly protected, starting in offensive zone > 58% (nearly 64% last season) ... Sever nearly 55% defensive zone starts. Reilly has always been a better possession player & is obviously putting up higher ppg numbers, but I believe Severson has the ability to completely close the ppg gap playing with the same lineup in Toronto. I'm not commenting on the package, but I don't think youre doing Severson justice, he's a better player than you insinuate who has toiled on some bad teams.

Severson is a very good d man, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think he would be better than Rielly. Severson I wouldn’t consider a #1 d man, whereas Rielly I definitely would. Severson has a good two way game, but I would moreso consider him a good #2 guy or a great #3. I definitely would want him, but not at that price

In the unlikely event Severson was obtained, would he be paired with Rielly? What would the pairs be (ignoring the potential other Leaf defenders could be gone in the deal)?

Assuming Muzzin comes back, I’d imagine Rielly-Brodie and Muzzin-Severson, but you never know with how Keefe rotates the lines lol
