Like I said in a post about Chychrun, why should the Flyers not go and capitalize on the Panther's desperation? This would already be a blockbuster move, but with the possible long term injury to Ekblad, Philly could change the trade to force the hand of the Panthers. Lundell or Knight would more than likely be enough to tip the scales, but I know Panther's fans aren't going to like this, but just look back to what Arizona got for Keumper with Colorado. Colorado needed a starting goalie, Keumper was the last one truly available, and they payed a premium for him. Why should Philly not use the same methodology as that situation? Or do you think that Philly will be so naïve to take pity on the Panther's injury problem and not charge a premium?

Maybe for sanheim but what premium can you ask for when giroux is only waiving for one place. But then they’ll just take Braun for not much else

Let me just stop you right there. We don't know what Ekblad's injury is. He could return before the playoffs even begin. And even if he is out long term, Lundell and Knight are absolutely untouchable. Anybody who says they will be traded is either blind or ignorant. Colorado paid a late 1st and an ok prospect for Kuemper. How does that at all equate to Knight, a future elite starting goalie, or Lundell, a 20 year old top 6 center with #1 upside, still on his ELC? Ridiculous.

All I said was desperation caused by this injury could lead to the price in acquiring possibly any dman for Florida to go up. In this package you are trying to acquire both Giroux and Sanheim, with Giroux having half retention. For Giroux alone, we were probably looking at about or just under what Eichel got. Let’s just say for the sake of argument that that is Samoskevich, Tippett, Denisenko, and the second round pick. That would leave Heponiemi, Kiersted, and a third for Sanheim. Personally, I don’t think that Philly sells him that low. So Philly would shoot this trade down, and with a premium on defenseman, assuming that Ekblad is out long term, Philly could ask for more than what Florida would be willing to give.

And the Kuemper trade was just the most recent example of something like this happening, so it’s not like it never happens. People were expecting to Kuemper to go for only a first or a second, and he ends up getting the equivalent of a first and second.
