any team trading for him is basically going to have a guarentee he is signing. The Wild will clear it with his agent before the trade happens.

Any drafted player (non-KHL) can do the same thing. Teams' only hold (non-KHL) drafted players rights for a few years.

The NCAA thing just stands out because their season ends when the NHL regular season is getting important and a handful of players each season could make an immediate impact for teams.
