Oof, no thanks. That's more than I'd pay by a lot.

That's too much from Avs. They arent giving up their top prospect or 1st to upgrade 3rd line with a rental. I dont think Copp gets 1st. 2nd + Jost or 2nd + B prospect so not O.O or Barron.

Would Avs do this if its Helleson instead of Barron? If Jets are moving Copp its ideally for a RHD prospect.

I think they do that. Getting the condition would be difficult they dont have a 1st this year and likely use next year's 1st in a bigger move like Giroux, Miller, Pavelski type deal . With Girard and Byram both injured they could use it on Chychurn possibly but who ever it is I think they go for a big move first and upgrading bottom 6 would be after that.

Personally I think Helleson and a mid pick is a fair ask. However, I think Colorado would ultimately decline. My guess would be they go as high as Ranta or Kaut and a 2nd but would walk away or turn their focus to Stastny if that doesn't get it done.

Avs still decline. Let’s be honest, there are fewer buyers at the TDL than ever, in large part because of the cap. I think MTL and WPG are in the same boat thinking they have guys that are going to net Coleman like returns when they just aren’t because with fewer buyers prices are going to come down.

Imo no. Copp is a back up plan guy for COL, he’d be nice but no way they give up a 2nd and their 2nd best d prospect for a 3rd line rental. It just doesn’t make sense.

Kaut and a pick not a 2nd is where I would top out. You aren’t re-signing Copp so he’s a pure 3rd line rental. Helleson is a real asset, it’s one thing trading him for someone like Giroux or Miller. But hey that’s just me.

Kaut is a bust and a 3rd round pick doesn't even get the conversation started. If the Avs don't want Copp that is fine but because he can be 50% retained to only carry a $1.8M caphit I think there will be a bidding war to add him as 50+ point jack of all trade forwards don't typically come with such a low hit.

Teams tight to the cap means less buyers but also greater competition for the few valuable players that can be fit.

Helleson is just finishing up his 3rd year of college and if you don't ink him this offseason he can go back for his 4th year and then go UFA. given the RD on the Avs roster and Barron in the prospect pool, it wouldn't be crazy for him to decide he could make NHL money somewhere else but will be stuck in the AHL for a while on the Avs. There is risk there as it not like he's under contract with the Avs like if he was playing in the CHL.

Kaut’s not a bust he’s blocked, it’s puzzling to many Avs fans.

Except COL can give him ELC he gets paid NHL money is given a chance to earn a spot AND like they did with Newhook let him burn a whole year of his ELC playing 10 games in the AHL this year. Also I think this narrative that COL is busting at the seems with RD is a little misleading. Makar yes. Toews LD, Byram LD, Girard LD but they can all play right. EJ and Barron are the only other RD of note in the system. It’s really easy to envision Barron in the NHL next year and Helleson playing lead dog of the d in the AHL if he doesn’t force his way on to the team. Would they be open to trading him sure, is the Copp the kind of guy you trade him for I don’t think so.

I get what you’re saying and respect it, but I think COL is looking for something bigger than Copp.

I was being diplomatic but I also would not trade Helleson. I do think Kaut/Ranta and a 2nd is fair though. Copp brings a lot to the table.
