Gio's not coming back

Paul and Dube are latteral moves, if anything you should be adding to the Ottawa side, there is no way that Ottawa gives up a third and Paul for Dube, he's just not worth that.

i mean i don't really think it's that bad, 3 years of cost certainty and RFA rights when it expires to fill the third-line role paul plays. I'd rather have paul as a player but if he's not signed by the tdl id do this, can argue the pick value but i dont care to move a third

Based on cap space and current team needs. What Im saying is get over it, he's gone. Probably packing his bags for Toronto or Florida in 10 days

Calgary's defense and team mentality have been excellent this year, why would they mess with it?

I couldn't care less if Gio comes back. Monahan's contract needs to be offloaded. Gio happens to fit the criteria and he knows the system. And Seattle may look at Monahan differently than most teams , especially if Calgary adds a sweetner. If they can't get this done then some other trade involving Monahan for a depth adding/pending UFA. Shoot, I'd even consider trading for Dzingel.

Bottom line there's not enough money with Monahan to do the proper internal work next year. Yes I think we can still squeeze in the 4 priorities (JG, MT, AM, OK) but there's little leftover to fill out the starting roster. The consequences of not finding a work around with Monahan is we lose JG, or trade Tkachuk's rights. The caveat is there's always the offseason - and maybe that's where I could talk myself out of making a move with Monahan until after the playoffs. To be fair Monahan is an NHL caliber player, just overpaid by a factor of 2x to 3x.

This guy's proposal is not tenable...unless the return is silly-good, I would not trade Zadorov (and neither would BT), which is in support of your point.
