It's not. Very easy way to tell us you don't watch much of other teams. Mayfield can't take top pair minutes. Look at the struggle he just had, and that was with an elite defending dman next to him. You would instantly regret this trade. Lol, just toss a first and a prospect, and that probably gets you an actually #1 like Chychrun. Lol I don't think the leafs would do Sandin in a trade for Chychrun, and you have traded him for at best a #4.

You need a better hobby than trolling leaf fans.

Chychrun isn't an actual #1. He's been not great this season. Before you say look at his team, Chabot has been stellar despite being on a bad Ottawa team. Good player rise above. Chychrun has proven he's a top 4 defender sure. But beyond that I think it's potential and Sandin has shown as much potential. So how about the Leafs just keep him because he's part of their future.

Mayfield's spent 2/3 of his even strength ice time this year on the top pair, has kept things pretty much easy in shots & chances (49.5%/49.3% for, both about 2-3 points higher than what the team does with him off ice), and the Isles have outscored opponents 26-19 at even strength with him. Even that has been slightly unlucky, because his GF/60 is almost half a goal less than his xGF/60 (2.27 vs. 2.75). Not trying to say he's a star, but he has definitely outplayed his $1.45M salary and would require less of a package (and less of a cap hit) than acquiring Chych.

That's fair, and it's not like I don't like Mayfield- I've actually commented a bunch on the leafs getting him (more as a 4/5)- but I think if it would actually involve Sandin, might as well package that for something better. I think Dermott, a 2nd, and a B prospect is more along the lines for Mayfield. I would get the Islanders not wanting that and valuing the player/contract more, but I also don't think you pay a 1st/A prospect/young player for a 4th dman.

I can tell you dont watch the islanders. Mayfield played top pair minutes the whole season and has actually played well. Its a toronto overpay for sure but saying mayfield is a #4 at best is just ignorant.

I know he played top pair minutes, that's what I meant by saying the struggle he just had. I didn't see the numbers, but from what I just watched, I thought he struggled overall, and that's with an elite guy next to him. So I don't really see him as a guy that can play on the top pair.

Hes not a top 65 dman (not a legit top pair guy) but hes a guy that could play big minutes if needed. He plays big pk minutes is built for playoff hockey and playing with pelech was solid. Hes not all of the sudden a HOFer but hes a solid top 4 guy. Not a #4 at best thats selling him very short.
