Welcome to VAN Marino trade #1,254,944 and the Pens still say no. Moving Marino makes no sense. I'm not sure why that isn't more obvious.

Poolman is a major step down from Marino and our next RD to that is Ruwhedel. This trades gives us more offense, but significantly huts our defense.

Garland would be a great fit in Pittsburgh. Marino is a solid top 4 dman but he's not anything that special. Marino has only played over 20minutes twice in his last 10 games. Him and Garland are also the same age.

Pittsburgh has maybe a couple more seasons to win. Garland + if they re sign Rust gives them a very good top 6, Marino's 20mins a night is replaceable by committee it doesn't significantly hurt their defence.

EDIT: also if they move Zucker they probably have the space to make a play in free agency on a dman like Manson.

If Marino isn't that special then why are you trading for him and adding cap to your team? If he's replaceable by committee then why not just keep Poolman?

Did I say he is bad? Nope I didn't. I said he's a solid top 4 dman. Garland isn't anything that special either but he is a solid top 6 forward.

He's replaceable by committee in Pittsburgh because they have a stronger dcore overall than Vancouver does.

Yeah, you're missing the point. If Letang gets injured, then Poolman becomes our #1 RHD, and trust me, Letang will get injured for stretches. So yeah, no thank you.

Like I said, they could also make a play in free agency on someone like Manson or even bring Schultz back.

Nah. You guys can do that if it's that easy. This trade doesn't make sense for the Pens. It makes more sense for YOU.

You could try looking at things with an open mind, might learn something.

Canucks will have a more difficult time signing free agent D as they're not contenders, they are in Canada, and signing a dman around 30yrs old doesn't fit the timeline very well. Pittsburgh doesn't really have to worry about signing an older dman as they will need a full rebuild when Crosby and Malkin are done anyways and they're an enticing market for a player to sign in.

I get that you disagree with the trade but don't be so stubborn that you can't even have a conversation about how it could make sense for Pittsburgh.

Nothing for me look at. I think you're not seeing the obvious issue because you made this trade.

1) Poolman isn't better than Ruwhedel and he's three times the price.

2) The Pens could use Garland, but they don't NEED Garland.

3) The defensive solution you're suggesting is something YOU can try just as easily as we can. We don't need Garland, but we need Marino.

4) Sid and Geno aren't done for another four years.

5) This trade mainly benefits you, not us.

1) fair. Poolman is an average number 5 D that is overpaid.

2) it's not about NEEDING someone it's about making your team better. Ultimate goal is to win cups.

3) do you not read or do you just choose to ignore what i just explained behind the Canucks replacing dmen on the market vs the Penguins replacing dmen on the market.

4) yep Sid and Geno have some years left in them but after that the team will need to go into full rebuild so it's pretty irrelevant whether their 2nd pair dman is 25 right now or 30 right now.

5) I think it's benefits both teams as Garland a significant boost to your top 6 and I think he would fit unbelievably well with Crosby in particular. And I've said multiple times I think there are ways for Pittsburgh to more or less replace the 20mins a night that Marino plays. With the Penguins current make up of their team it's easier to replace Marino's contributions on defense than it is to add someone of Garlands caliber on forward.

I read your comment about #3 and it's not easier for the Pens who are a cap-strapped team. The options have to be there and they're not there.

You have to keep what YOU NEED before you get what you WANT. The Pens aren't in a position to make an area weaker to make one better. It's just common sense. There's no proper way to replace Marino.

This trade ONLY BENEFITS YOU. Pens say no. Sorry.

Devils wouldn't trade AJ for a downgrade on wing.
Have enough wingers as is anyway.
