An extra pick? Not only are they not getting this return, they would have to give up a 1st++ to facilitate this.

Agreed. There's no reason for NSH to go after Weber yet. He's not going to officially retire cause he's still collecting a nice paycheck. NSH might consider taking him on when he's down to the last 3 years that are only at a $1mil salary. At that point he might consider retirement, and they'll want to avoid the recapture penalty. But all they'll have to give up for him is a 7th rounder.

Petry's not worth a first and Myers at this point. He needs to prove he's not washed up before they get a return for him.

I agree with everything except the part about Weber voluntarily retiring down the line. I don't see any reason for Weber to officially retire, before his contract ends. Being on LTIR or being retired wouldn't make any difference to him, other than he gets a paycheque being on LTIR. Even if it's "only" $1M, why would he give that up? He can still get a job being a scout or coach or whatever too, if he wants.

Simply put: if Weber retires before his contract expires, the Predators will be tagged with a $4.9 million cap hit through the 2026 season when the contract expires.
I feel like Nashville would like to control this part by grabbing back his contract IDK ...

I agree with that. But, he's made over $100 mil in his career, and at some point he might not want to have to do the assessment trips to MTL every once in a while to ensure he's still eligible to be on LTIR. Not sure where he pays his taxes, but if it's in Canada, he's probably losing 50%

Doesn’t matter what team he’s playing for, there would be recapture.

If the man has injuries severe enough to keep him from playing, he presumably has to go to see doctors and specialists about it regardless. Might as well collect a paycheque for doing it.
