Adding for the playoffs

Description
As it sits right now, the flames can be roughly $3 mill over the cap at the TDL. I see this as an all in push, and I believe all trades are strong for both teams.
It leaves work for management in summertime do move out center salary, but it can be done. It also allows our AHL roster to stay together to go on their own run with the likes of Pelletier, Phillips, Ruzicka, Mackey, Valimaki, and Wolf (amongst others). Does this put us in a hole for picks and prospects for the nexts couple years, yup, time is now.

It'll take a 3rd party because they won't deal with the Flames, Reilly Smith. Vegas has some cap to shed when Eichel gets healthy.

That's not enough for Crouse, he likely returns a 1st.

Also Backlund should not be on the 4th line

Who won't deal with the Flames? San Jose?

You think Crouse gets Arizona a 1st? Actually? Or just saying that for arguments sake? Do two 2nds have more value than one late 1st? Pitlick is just a salary move, doesn’t effect the coyotes positively or negatively. Also I understand Backlund “shouldn’t be there” but having Looch, Backs, and Lewis as your 4th line in the playoffs is a very good problem to have.

Vegas. I'd look at Smith, but Vegas won't move him to Calgary. They'll need to clear cap at some point

Hertl if he is traded (which i doubt will happen now that kane is out) will likely fetch more than this deal, not a horrible trade but he is by far the best player available at the TDL.

I do think Crouse returns a 1st, he brings a lot of intangibles in his game along with a solid defensive game. He is also under team control being an RFA and has proven this year to be effective offensively too.

While you are right that Backlund playing 4C is a "good problem to have" I do not believe we should be limiting him to 10 minutes a night. While I do see Calgary looking to make a big splash at the deadline I dont think it will be 3 major additions. Maybe 2.

I also dont think Hertl is the right target to dump a bunch of assets on and think selling low on Dube is a bad idea

Thats not true, Miller, Pavs, and Giroux are all at least and arguably better than Hertl

He is better than Miller, Giroix and Pavelski are both on his level but both are significantly older which is a risk, plus all three are 50/50 at best to be dealt.

You are probably right on Vegas, I think Smith ends up in Nashville or something

How is he better than Miller? 1 is a ppg 2-way physical center on a bad team, the other is a 0.8 PPG 2-way center ona. Bad team.

I like him. Just hard to see VGK sending him to the Flames, given they may see each other in the playoffs. Would need an Ottawa or Arizona to get involved to facilitate it. Sutter loves playoff experience, he's a functional player with a ton of it.

Oh dont get me wrong, Im a fan of Smith as a player. I would not target him over Giroux or Pavs though. I think addressing the lack of RHS is still relevant enough

Giroux or Pavelski would be great fits. Just a matter of Treliving selling either on why they should come to Calgary for the stretch run. There's just gonna be so much interest in both of them and they get to hand pick their destination.

I'd still do it to be honest. I'm not sure why Dube's dropped off or why Zary is struggling a bit in the AHL but I think there's still a lot of value there. They're both still young enough to bounce back big.

Sharks accept. If Hertl is still moved (sounds more and more like he won't be traded, he is having ongoing discussions with management) this is a pretty acceptable deal.

Zary was injured to start the season and Stockton came out of the gate red hot and never slowed down. When healthy he joined the team but was placed on the 4th line, he's been very slowly climbing up the lineup.

Dube's actual scoring this year very poorly reflects his game play
To get an idea here is him compared to Jordan Kyrou who currently has 28 5v5 points to Dube's 9.
Notice that both players have played ~40 games and have nearly identical CF and xGF, yet Dube's acutal GF is significantly lower
