Description
JG is tearing it up, but there's a really good chance he doesn't resign in CGY. Does tre have the nuts to trade him with how good the team has been playing or does he let him walk?

What is JGs actual worth right now?

If you think you can make some noise in the playoffs you have to keep him.

His value has skyrocketed, but he very likely walks for a contender in the off-season. Right now, they are 2 points out of the second wild card with 3 games in hand on Dallas. They also have 6/7 games in hand on Vegas, Anaheim, and LA, so they could definitely be one of the top 3 in the Pacific. But if they don’t win those games in hand, they won’t make the playoffs. I would say if the Flames go on another cold streak before the deadline, sell JG, but if they are only a point or two out of a playoff spot, at the deadline, keep him. As it stands, unless they get a divisional seed, they should get ready to face Colorado in the first round. Calgary won’t have at chance at beating Colorado without JG, and JG most likely walking for a true contender in the off season, I would personally say sell.

This is a package I would propose for JG:
Carolina: JG (30% retained)
Calgary: 2023 first rounder, 2024 2nd rounder, Ryan Suzuki, Dominik Bokk

Calgary gets a first rounder in a deep draft, a 2nd rounder in another deep draft, and 2 former first round selections.

Would this package get JG?

Strongly disagree with this take. There is a really good chance he does resign since nobody good can afford to pay him 10M

No that package is not interesting considering Calgary is probably a playoff team.

What contender can actually afford him at 10M though?

It’s a good offer, for me it’s Necas and 2023 1st

I think the issue would be if he goes to FA in the offseason, Philly, Boston, NYI, and New Jersey could all make a move for him. He could likely sign for 7x$8m there and be close to home if that's a priority. I would think if he's going to stay, the Flames need to make a big push to re-sign him over the next couple months because at this point, you aren't trading him.

I do agree that the package with Suzuki isn't really interesting.

Why would he ever sign for 7x8? Calgary will be offering him 8x8 at minimum? UFA's never take discounts to go elsewhere, especially at max term

If being close to home is a priority for him, why not? Maybe he's offered 7x$9m so the total salary is closer to an 8x$8m (I think the highest the flames would go would be $9m AAV but feel like it would 8x$8.5m).

I'm not saying I want it to happen, you just never know what can happen. Until he's re-signed, I would still be a little worried about him walking.

Not even close. We're talking about a top 10 scorer in the league in his prime...

I mean Jersey is realistically the only other team he would probably sign with, and even then it's probably still more likely to be a resign in Calgary unless they give him over 10M
