Description
Rule: No using players with 0 NHL experience

The Oilers will be in trouble this offseason, They have a major cap dilemma (especially if Klefbom returns, but I'm assuming he won't as indicators suggest he may have to retire early). The prime buyout candidates won't save too much money

First things first, cap space is needed, it will be expensive but this is necessary so that moves can be made. Y'all will probably say that I overpaid for cap space but cap space is expensive

Next up, the RFA's, all of them need to be bridged in order to make it work with the salary cap

Except for Pulju... he needs more money and a longer contract

Next up, goaltending. Mike Smith is not a viable option. Add some assets to him for a buy-low candidate in Jake Allen, Allen should perform better in Edmonton where the D isn't Montreal levels of bad (yet)

A team that should blow it up? Philly. While the contract is steep, Cam Atkinson is a good option for the Oilers top six. Yamamoto is an unknown variable at this stage in his career, and Derek Ryan needs to be banished for cap reasons and because he's apparently a top candidate for being shipped out

Next up, a defensive upgrade. Vince Dunn is young and a strong trade candidate for Seattle. Add in a few extra picks so Ceci's contract can be shipped out, and we have a better top 4 folks

Now just to pick up some cheap depth in free agency and this team looks a lot better. Have I depleted the draft capital? Yes, but competitive teams typically do that and with the way their salary cap has been destroyed, this was necessary

Arizona for sure wants more to take on Keith and Kassian.

#1 If ARZ even considers that, then the Oilers take that and run. Keith has a NMC so why should he accept this?
#2 You talk about saving cap space then trade for Allen, Atkinson, Dunn, all of who combine more than Yamamoto, Ryan, Smith, Ceci. On top of that you added assets to get rid of them. Counter productive to your logic.
#3 I think this is just making trades for the sake of making trades. Don't think it improves the team at all. Look at your 4th line and 3rd pair. Those are not NHL regulars.

Check this link of what I think the Oilers should do. It's not sexy, but it's definitely better than making all these trades and being a worse team.

Broberg has played 8 games in the NHL this season, and is playing well in the AHL (23gp - 2g - 15a - 17pts.) I'd be shocked if he's not playing next season.

Edmonton also has young forwards like Bourgault and Holloway - saying that you're not going to use them isn't realistic. Speaking of realistic, more likely that Duncan Keith retires than goes to Arizona. If he retires, Edmonton gets a cap rebate in addition to his cap space.

If we're in cap trouble why would we trade a young cheap top 6 forward for an aging player with a bad contract?

Lol no from habs. Those players don’t do anything for us. The only prospects I like on the oilers are Bourgault, Broberg, Bouchard . Their prospect pool is so incredibly meh….

The point of creating cap space was to upgrade the top 6 and top 4. At this point, the Oilers have neither, several prospects will likely fill in the 4th line and 3ed pair, also I didn't know that Broberg played so I'd actually call him up

Habs deal seems fair even tho I’d like someone like Broberg instead of Samorukov Montréal could add a second to balance the deal

Keith is likely gonna retire and his contract will be null and void, its really just for Kassian, but I needed Kieth's contract off the books for this to work

Because Yama is not a top 6 forward yet? And Atkinson is a proven commodity with a few good years left in him

Sent Keith to Arizona because I needed his contract off the books. I agree that he'll likely retire, as for the prospects? That's for training camp to determine

Even still I think more than a 5th is needed to move Kassian alone
