I love the Galchenyuk deal. I wish he had another down season and we would be able to get him for a lower price.

I don't understand why Flyers fans want to pay Weal so much. Sure, he shows some hustle, but the kid has 5 points in 29 career games. Pay him the 650K he's earned and spend the rest more wisely.

A few answers to your question...
1. Weal played on the 4th line for 90% of those 29 games.
2. Weal has played outstanding with Simmonds since being paired with him.
3. Weal is a UFA, not RFA, someone will see his potential and give him a 1-way contract...I want that to be us. $1.125 per year for 3 years is not a huge deal.

1. You don't give a guy who's basically an AHL/4th line guy a 200% raise with such a small sample size.
2. I've watched most of the games since he's been called up. His 4 goals come from a combined 20 feet from the net (maybe). It's nice that he's collected some rebounds and deflections, but he's not a sniper and his 1 assist doesn't scream playmaker.
3. I know he's a UFA, but no team is paying him 1mil+. He cleared waivers out of camp. If Hextall offered him a one-way deal at 650k, I'd bet he'd take it.

You are complaining about paying a guy that can play a top 9 role (because he is not an AHLer, he has made great strides) $1.125 mil...that is quite funny to me.

Exactly for the reasons you listed it makes sense. This team won't be a contender for 3-4 years. Giroux will be appx. 33 at that time. Better to build a young core during a rebuild.

Giroux trade seems fair. Agree that it'd probably be best for a retooling team like Philly.
