I doubt Edmonton gives up a top prospect, a first round pick and their starting goalie for someone who may not even play for them, and could just leave after 20 games.

Lavoie is not a top prospect, he's been very disappointing in the AHL. If Edmonton is going for the cup MAF is the best choice in goal. Also Chicago is sending back their 3rd which cancels the Keith trade condition which something to consider.

I don't either, but they can flip him and get more future assets

Using "they can flip him" as a way to justify is pretty lazy. Teams generally dont trade for players with the intention of flipping them

Well my point being Kubalik holds value and it can be up to them to keep him or trade him at the deadline for example, and If they decide to trade him they will receive a good return

As an Edmonton fan, I can tell you that trade is not fair. I don't blame you, Oilers have been tied to Fleury trade rumors, but I don't think that trade'll go down, especially with what we're giving up in that trade. Holland is very protective of his first rounders, and he's certainly not gonna give Koskinen for Fleury. They're performing at about the same abilities, if not Koski better, and Koski's younger and cheaper (so good choice for retaining $3.5M). So that leaves a top prospect and a first rounder for a third rounder. The math doesn't add up to me there.

Your math is simply wrong. Fleury is playing way better than koskinen since the first 10 games of the season. Plus fleury has proven himself in the playoffs. If you want to take out the prospect and take out the third that could be doable but the deal above isn't far off.

Besides the 1st 10 games, Add up MAF stats and it'll show you he's been amazing and certainly better than Koskinen. Lavie isn't a top prospect, he's been very disapointing in the AHL (3 points in 18 games).

I would do this from the Oilers perspective. MAF had an atrocious start to the season but has definitely turned it around. Koskinen was the opposite... started strong, followed it up with a bad stretch of games that he still won because the team outscored his mistakes, had a couple more good games when injuries hit, then has absolutely tanked on this home stand. Holland will be crucified if he brings Koski back.

In the playoffs, I hands down have MAF in the net over Koskinen. The Oilers willingness to give up a 1st though ultimately comes down to how Smith looks when he steps back in. If he stays healthy until the trade deadline and plays like last years Smith, they spend that 1st somewhere else. If Smith re-injures or tanks, they'd definitely spend it on Fleury.

I'm of the same opinion on Lavoie. He's still 21 so time to turn it around but I see him more likely to bust than hit. Definitely a B level prospect.
