Don’t take the trades too seriously. This is also assuming Murray finds a way to bounce back. If not, sign a good backup

You mean, that's a very big price to pay for Murphy...

Brannstrom value has diminished for sure but he was worth a top-15 pick not that long ago. He had covid, a few injuries and has been mismanaged (Dorion & DJ have done with several players) but his value is still high (they will hold on to him until his value plummets like it happened with Logan Brown though)

Jarventie is not just a 2nd round pick prospect. He was a high 2nd pick and has done pretty good in pro leagues at a very young age too. He is raw and a bit of a long term project but the potential is there, 1st liner skillset

And then another 2nd. This package is worth at least two first round picks... I mean, is Connor Murphy really worth that?

I think he is if you take into account his next contract. 4 years at 4.4 is a very team friendly deal for a second pairing shutdown guy, I would think. Sure its a lot to pay, but I think with the stack of incoming guys you have, you would take an established veteran with leadership qualities for that price

He's RD which is a big need for Ottawa

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - Murphy
Holden - JBD/Thomson
Mete

Now it's starting to be quite solid

I would be ready to pay something like :

Brännström, Erik
2022 2nd round pick (OTT)
2022 2nd round pick (TB)

I changed Jarventie to another 2nd, which should be high in the 2nd round

I think Murphy is from the same breed as Zub and Carlo. 2nd pairing shutdown guys that could play top pairing if they’re paired with guys like Chychrun, Theodore, Werenski, Chabot, Quinn Hughes. That caliber of player.

Yeah I mean, I suppose it depends on what you value more, the 2nd in this years draft so you can keep stacking future waves of guys or another guy who is on the same timeline as some of the guys you already have but potentially not the top end skill set as some of your other young guys. I think the Ottawa 2nd in this years draft would be more valuable to both Ottawa and the Hawks, simply to keep refreshing contract timelines and stuff, but theres also no guarantee the player you get with that pick ends up a good player

I agree. He has shown a solid understanding of the offensive game, so he doesnt get caught in weird pinches and is able to understand when he should cheat up or start to cheat back towards the neutral zone, he just doesnt quite have that skill set to put up points.

I'd rather not trade Jarventie as I could easily see him boom into a legit threat top-6 forward so with a 2nd, you're just giving up a currency. This draft will be good, so if Chicago has any confidence in their own drafting, they might even prefer get another 2nd
