I still don't see that being enough for Faulk.. I think if you are trading for a top-2 defender it's going to have to be Nylander for whoever

yeah nobody wants to give up any of their big pieces, but that is what it would probably take. CAR isn't going to just settle for guys who haven't played in the NHL for a proven #1 or #2 defenseman... Just like I wouldn't move Provorov for Duchene you guys wouldn't move Nylander for a top defender even though that is what it takes. I think it would be better to just go after a player like Vatanen from ANA because that package posted would be easier to get him than Faulk...

No way does Kapanen as the main centerpiece get you Justin Faulk? Try more like something around Nylander/Marner at the very least Francis was asking for Draisaitl from Edmonton for Faulk.

Kapanen is good but not good enough for Faulk. This could use someone like Nylander and the Leafs could get Ryan Murphy to even it out. 2/5 stars, though

Really bad for Carolina

The thing about Kaspari being one of the top Leafs prospects is that the only reason he's a top prospect on this team is because of all the other guys that they graduated this year. Kapenen is a middle 6 guy and wouldn't even come close to being the main name going back in a Justin Faulk deal. I'd imagine that the call would be made, Carolina would ask for Marner +, and that would be about the end of it.

Kapanen is going to be a really good top line winger by the looks of things. So he is without a doubt a main piece. Leafs would never ever trade Marner for Faulk. That's a huge disservice to the Leafs.

Even worse is that Faulk is currently the only defensemen on the roster that qualifies to be exposed in the expansion draft. Dahlbeck knows this and is holding out for a bigger money extension. Might be a nice gesture to also send a dman back that carolina can expose, Marincin or Marchenko?
