They just spent a first for Kuemper, they're not doing it again.

Fair enough. But in the other hand, Samsonov-Kuemper tandem could be huge for the Avs.

Nope. Samsonov hasn't actually been that bad when watching him and still has tons of potential. The Capitals aren't looking to trade him anytime soon, and would demand a higher return to trade him right now. Would most likely have to be a robbery for GMBM to accept. One great game by Fucale isn't just going to supplant Sammy, and Fucale really is only up as Vanecek is dealing with something nagging.

Of course not right now. But Samsonov is obviously in Lavi's doghouse just like Vrana (who had tons of potential as well), so if Fucale proves himself by the deadline, GMBM can pull the trigger... again.

I don't see how Sammy is in the doghouse. Vanecek is currently dealing with something nagging (I don't think they said what), and called up Fucale as an insurance measure. Vrana, in my opinion, did not have the same value Samsonov does and had played so poorly he was scratched. Samsonov is not near the same level of poor play, and far too many Caps fans have given up on him when he has had a couple bad games, without taking into account other factors. I would expect Fucale to be sent back down at some point in the next week.

It looked like Samsonov was pulled in the Florida game as a punishment. Also, AHL goalies rarely play right of the gate after being called up, usually they don't play at all and just hold the backup spot. And of course knowing Lavi's habits (from his time in Philly 😁) gave me this overall impression of being put in a doghouse. But I might be wrong.

I would say he played immediately because the Caps have back to back games, and getting pulled from the FLA game I would assume was simply because he gave up 3 goals. Maybe he is, but even if that is the case I don't see a need to trade him.

avs have 0 inderst in this trade, makes 0 sense

Washington fans are trying to move samsonov bc of poor play etc, if hes not a starter level why would the Avs wnt him and why would they give up a 1st for him. Value and reason why the fan base is moving him on this site dont align

Fanbase is far too panicky on this. Had a couple bad starts, one to the best team in the league, and suddenly people want him gone. we’ve been fed for years that he is a “cancer”, and we probably will be fed the narrative that he sucks even though he isn’t bad when actually watching him. Why they want to send him to Colorado who already has Kuemper and Francouz makes no sense to me as well.

Picking him up isnt a bad idea for the Avs next year to be a 1B after they extend Kuemper (im pretty confident on that as they have been after him beyond this offseason, and so far hes played well with the Avs)
But the idea of getting a big return while guys are panic moving him bc he doesnt look good, I just dont get how that aligns. If hes good despite his numbers you keep him, if hes bad or a disappointment you cant get a big return for him like that. Cant be both IMO
