Breakdown for Sabres: Peterka, 3rd, and just under $8M for Mantha, a big power forward who led the Wings in goals and points up to the trade deadline. Then Eichel for Tuch and prospects.

Breakdown for WSH: two 2nd line wings and some future stuff for a bigger, better 1st line wing. Get their old 3LW back.

Breakdown for Vegas: Eichel, under the cap, without giving up Krebs or a 1st.

Yeah nice try thinking you can sneak Peterka in there, Adams faces times you so you can see him and the entire office sincerely laughing at that offer, Also dont know why Buffalo is paying for Allen, when Anderson has been great for them

This feels a little cluttered, but in a well-thought-out sort of way, if you get what I mean.

Gonna wrap my head around it for a moment here-

BUF Receives:
Mantha
Kempny
Hague
Brisson
Tuch
Whitecloud
Elvenes

BUF Gives Up:
Eichel
Caggiula
Peterka
3rd Round Pick
$5mil of retention

VGK Receives:
Eichel
Hagelin
Caggiula

VGK Gives Up:
Dadonov
Smith
Pachal
Stephenson
Hague
Brisson
Tuch
Whitecloud
2nd Round Pick

The Washington part is pretty well encapsulated inside that one trade box, so not gonna chronicle it here.

Overall, I like the return for Buffalo and Washington, but I feel like Vegas are the losers here. A lot of players lost in this trade, and while Hagelin and Caggiula can help to pick up the slack on the lost depth, it still puts the Knights in a bad position, at least until Eichel gets back from injury. If they do or don’t win the cup by 2023 in this universe, this trade would be the reason why, depending on whether Eichel pans out for them and how the players they traded away end up doing. That being said, Vegas is the kind of team that would definitely do this trade, so I see this as a pretty realistic offer despite how complex it is. Buffalo would have to want to compete though, if they’re planning on tanking this isn’t the way to do it.

Or wait. It's here: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2880724

And at the bottom of that, I just commented a suggestion to trade a 1st to Ari for Boyd and a max retained Kessel, then to trade a 4th to STL for a 4th, and I typed lines in that comment. Same term left on Kessell as Reilly, but I think Kessell is off to a better start, and probably did better last year, on a worse team? By not trading their first in the Eichel deal, Vegas can still make other moves to get to the playoffs, while adding a franchise center. By not trading Krebs, they can develop Krebs, Patrick, and Roy at center while waiting for Eichel.

Vegas gives up 6 NHL roster players and receives 3. How the hell does that make sense? Vegas is moving out 3 top 6 forwards, their future 2nd pair, Dadanov, Pachal and Brisson for Eichel (no retention) and 2 bottom 6 forwards.

This trade is a joke and Vegas rejects it easily

Like I said, I see Vegas as the losers here. I just also see their management group as the type to give up that many roster players for Eichel.

Their management group has lost 1 player on waivers and traded 3 drafted players in the 4 years of their franchise. Where does that point of view come from?

I said roster players, not drafted players. Vegas is a carousel, in my opinion. They chew up and spit out players on their roster like crazy. Also, it’s not too impressive of a stat to have only traded 3 of your drafted players when a franchise has only gone through 5 drafts so far. All first rounders in those trades too, from the same draft class. Glass, Suzuki, Brannstrom. It’s not too far fetched that they’d trade Brisson too.

Letting players go is one thing but when you look at who they let go that is a different story. Perron, Suzuki, Schmidt, Fleury and Tatar are the only players they have let go of significance. They have also gained Stone, Patchioretty, Pietrangelo, Stephenson, Martinez and Lehner. Most teams go through this process when attempting to go to the cup.

Can leave Anderson out of the MTL trade. They're clearly rebuilding either way, and might as well develop a goalie prospect.

You want to switch JJP to Elvenes or Quinn? Or do you want one of them on Rochester's checking line?

I'm not in the NHL, but thank you.

Here's the Vegas side link, I think: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2880724

They can demote Rondbjerg, and package Roy, Patrick and a 1st for any RW that can get retained below $3.7M. Kessel, Zucker, Rust, whatever. I didn't want to make that post be about how they upgrade 2RW at the deadline, because that's secondary scoring, and this trade is about clearing out their current, overpriced secondary scoring to add a franchise center.

You think a 3rd round pick and $7.5M cash gets you the 6'5" power forward who led Detroit in goals and points through last year's trade deadline? Take that one up with MacLellan. Neutral parties said no, when I posted it on the Vegas side, but maybe he really likes the idea of not being able to re-sign Reilly Smith next year, because his goalies take up all his cap space, and feeling like he traded Jakub Vrana for frickin' Dadonov?

Yeah. I think it makes Buffalo a playoff team, and if Vegas gets their top line back off LTIR by the playoffs, they're the favorite.

Fixed the link. Thanks.

Is it better if they line up:
Paccioretty, Eichel, Patrick
Marchessault Krebs/Roy Stone
Janmark Karlsson Hagelin?

Too early in the year to go over the cap. Too late to wait on Eichel's surgery/recovery.

Lose depth at RW now to get under the cap and add a top center. If there's LTIR space at the deadline and everybody looks close to returning, maybe rent Kessel and Galchenyuk for a 1st.
