what every team could have looked like according to my mock drafts pt 12

Description
The rules:
- I redrafted every draft from 2007-2016 using the first round only. I drafted using best player available with current knowledge on all the players.
- I drafted based on what a player has done in their careers up until this point, disregarding future potential
- All players drafted before 2007 or after 2016 can stay on their current teams.
-All players not ranked inside the first round in their respective draft can stay on their current team
-All undrafted players will stay on current rosters
- all players redrafted by different teams must be shipped off the roster
- I will fill out the roster with players within the organization preferably.
- This isn't meant to be a realistic exercise, its only a supposed to give a glimpse of what teams could have looked like in hindsight. so disregard things like the salary cap.

Zach Hyman: 2010 25th overall-FLA

2012 just made me blink a lot and say "daaaaaaamn" out loud - they really screwed the pooch on that draft.

Draisaitl definitely goes 1OA in a redraft. He’s better than point and better than pastrnak

In my opinion the other two have been more valuable players. Even though they’re all really close

There's a lot more information than just point in the lists I posted.

I'm glad to keep Draisaitl, because he's easily the best player from the 2014 draft. He is, in fact, an MVP.

I mean really all 3 of them are so close I could understand any of them being at # drai is obviously still really good

I would go Drai > Point > Pasta. Centers are more valuable and harder to come by. Drai is a top 5 center, Point is a top 10 center, and Pasta is a Top 5 wing right now.

Out of curiosity, where did you have Ekblad?

I like these, good fun thing to do.

Draisaitl has literally won a Ted Lindsay, a Heart trophy, an Art Ross, and had a 50 goal season. The only thing that you can say is Edmonton is not nearly as good as Boston or Tampa over these guys careers, which doesn’t have anything to do with these players.

But yeah these redrafts are fun to discuss

Am I reading this wrong but it has Nurse as NR? I'd personally still have him in that 5-10 range.

As with others above, big disagreement on Drai not being #1 in 2013.

Might disagree on Shaw over Klefbom a bit but that's a pretty minor one. Points isn't be all end all but Klefbom as a D was 0.41P/G and Shaw as a forward wasn't much higher at 0.45P/G. Shaw had the advantage of being a complimentary winger on a stacked contender for a good chunk of his career where Klefbom had to play on the Oilers Decade of Darkness blueline where he never had depth or a decent partner. I guess injuries need to be taken into account in mock drafts but it's too bad we never got to see what Klefbom's career would've looked like without the nagging shoulder injuries.

      LOL, I missed that. Crazy!

Hard to believe there's anyone out there that would prefer Bjorkstrand over Nurse, let alone leaving Nurse right out of the 1st round entirely. Wow.

Personally I just don’t think nurse has been very good at all besides this year. He’s very bad defensively couldn’t overlook that’s my opinion

I mean, opinions are opinions but that is one wild take.... 7th in Norris voting last year but outside the entire first round in your re-draft.

The guy has shown he's a top pairing dman, over the last 4 years:
      -has not missed a game
-has seen ice time increase from 22mins/game to over 25 mins/game
      -plus/minus of +35
-scoring pace of 10.4G and 39.3P per 82GP

Not trying to sound rude but I don’t really value stats like time on ice and +/- when evaluating players. I can see why people think highly of him because he’s on the flashier side

I'll agree that in a vacuum things like TOI and +/- aren't the most useful and points isn't be all end all but when you see everything add it up tells a story.

25:00+ ice time means #1Dman on your team and generally playing against toughest competition
Positive plus/minus means that when you're on the ice the puck is ending up in the other teams net more than yours
High point production means he's contributing to the offense (15 out of 16 goals last year were at even strength, wasn't just riding the PP)

His game is high event (lots of chances at both ends) but it is definitely amplified by playing most of his time with Tyson Barrie... every Dman is going to have adventures when you're playing the other teams best players with essentially 4 forwards on the ice.

I'm just curious what your full re-draft/evaluation criteria looks like when you have an average top 6 winger redrafted at 7 and a clear top pairing defenseman that is completely out of the first round.

I'm just curious what your full re-draft/evaluation criteria looks like when you have an average top 6 winger redrafted at 7 and a clear top pairing defenseman that is completely out of the first round.

I respect your view on it, but like I said I take all the years into account. To me Bjorkstrand has been a real underrated top 6 winger for the past few years, and I feel like this was Nurse's only real standout season in terms of impact. For example, I ranked Morrissey at 30th because he was quite good his first couple years but his past two have been real bad. Another season like that for Nurse will see him shoot up the rankings for me. I think he's a quite talented player I just think he hasn't always used his skill set properly and would make sloppy plays with the puck to often. He seemed to clean that up this year
