Rust would have to come with a reasonable extension.

I think value-wise it's fair, but it comes down to needs for the Pens. Strome would be a nice piece at 3C, but if the Pens are moving Rust because they can't afford then it only makes sense if Strome's raise isn't significant. All in all though I think there's something to this trade depending on a few intangibles.

Ive been saying Rust to CHI all this time. Instead of a 2nd, would CHI do Nylander and Strome for Rust Bjorkqvist and 4th?

Either works, but Nylander would be nice on Malkins wing then Kapanen with Sid.

But with our scouts. That pick could be a good pick. Not saying your wrong, just rather have the pick instead

well the only way his raise would be significant would be if he had a real break out year this year, which in that case would be a big plus for the pens anyways, no?

From my point of view, I'd rather have Nylander. So both sides kinda agree there. I think it would come down to what a "reasonable" extension is.

Yes and no. If the Pens can't afford Rust's price tag which is likely to be around the $5.5M, what could a breakout year for Strome do? Not a bad problem to have and the Pens are in a situation where they'd risk losing either player for nothing, so at least getting the pick buttresses the loss.

well Strome would be an RFA, not a UFA like rust. And even a big breakout year wouldn't push strome to the 5.5 mil range. Unless he's like ppg theres just no way he gets that much money with only one year of that production. Rust is more proven. And even if Strome has a hige year and drives his price tag up to the 5-6 mil range, Pit has a high value trade asset or they find a way to pay him. Being an RFA there's more flexibility

I would rather the 2nd. It's not even that i'm out on Nylander, but I know we're never gonna put him in a position to succeed. He's gonna be a 4th liner or scratched, and he's not gonna be able to be effective at all in those roles. I wouldn't hate giving him a shot with toews and kubalik, but with the win now approcah we're adopting it just won't happen

Unless Rust comes with an extension, this is an absolute no as exo said. That said, I think there is something to be had here. Regarding nylander, we need to give him a chance right now and see if his knee is okay. I wouldn't trade him for little value at this point which is what he's worth right now.

I have a different take on Nylander. From what I've seen he isn't a top 6 player yet...AND THAT'S A GOOD THING!

From the games he's played thus far...he's actually produced more in a bottom 6 role than top 6. I completely understand he's not going to be a bruiser or even a defensive guru. It's just that he seems to add a different element when placed with a high energy guy like he was with Kampf/Highmore and I think he'll do that with Hagel too. It's not just the stats, but also look at his goals. He called his own number a few times while even paired with Kane/Toews (Which I'm A-OK with!) OR the other thing i see is high energy guys working down low and he floats into a soft area ready to use the wrister. I really think if he's paired with Hagel/Borgstrom or Hagel/TJ on the 3rd that he'll be the guy driving the goal scoring. Neither Hagel nor Nylander are afraid to pull the trigger and bottom 6 scoring is huge.
