Description
I used the Karlsson trade as a framework for the Eichel trade.

Eichel will center Couture’s line and Eklund will take Barbanov’s place, when Eichel returns mid season.
If Eklund is not ready Leonard can take his spot.

Getting Eichel means that Burns and Karlsson don’t have to be Norris caliber defenseman for this team to succeed.

Burns: 4 years 8 mil
Karlsson: 6 years 11.5 mil
Eichel: 5 years 10 mil
Kane: 4 years 7 mil
Couture: 6 years 8 mil

They wont have to worry about eichel if thats their offer. Theres nothing interesting there except for the 22 first. In fact, two of the players are left d, that would be going to a team with rasmus dahlin and owen power (2 first overall picks) that are left handed d, plus three of our other top prospects and a couple guys that are already on the roster. Its ok, dont fix it, i get the idea here, any offer that included forwards that we could actually use, would just be 2nd and 3rd round picks from a few years ago, the guys that you dont have any real hopes for.

Okay, first of all your numbers don't check out at all: when you add Eichel's hit to that roster you're $1,563,334 in the hole. Who were you planning on sending to the Barracuda to make up that difference?

Look, I realize that you're not alone in thinking that Eichel to San Jose would solve a our problems, but you - and everyone else who is hoping for this - are wrong.

As Juiceman has pointed out, we have a lot of really crappy contracts on the books. What he hasn't pointed out is the total: $41.5 million dollars tied up in five contracts, none of which expire until 24/25 - and two of them run until 26/27. If you throw in Eichel's $10 million cap hit, that's $51.5 million tied up in six players, which leaves you with around $30 million for the rest of the team. You couldn't even make those numbers work for this season, what're you going to do about Hertl, Ferraro, and Knyzhov's new contracts next year? (If you're even thinking about saying "buy out some of the bad contracts" I encourage you to go play with the buyout calculator - those contracts are really not structured to be buyout friendly.)

Adding yet another huge contract to our already stupidly large collection of huge contracts is a bad, bad move. Adding one that's attached to a player who has a serious surgery ahead of him that may or may not affect his play going forward is an even worse move. Giving up what's mostly likely going to be a really goddamn high pick in a super deep draft with extremely good players available is just foolish.

And on top of all of that, Buffalo laughs you out of the room with that package. Simek, bless his heart, is not good. Labanc has had two back to back terrible seasons. Gambrell is a fourth line center. Kniazev has good numbers in juniors, but he's hardly a blue chip prospect. The Karlsson trade had significantly higher value in the players sent to Ottawa, not to mention better picks. This is just a big ol' NOPE all around.

Sabres decline anyway, so no need to get that in depth. Also the Sabres literally dont need another LD and you have 2 in there
