Arizona passes, And Trouba isn't waiving his NMC for that dumpster fire of a team named the Sabres.

Trouba doesn't waive.

Overpay for rental Zib (unless extension).

Strome gets you one 2nd most likely.

Dvorak and Koskinen deals make some sense.

LOL.

Over the past 2 years, Koskinen posted a .910 save percentage to Georgiev's .908. And Koskinen's mark was dragged down by the beginning of 20-21 when Smith was injured and Holland screwed up the backup situation repeatedly, and it meant that Koskinen had to play every game of a wicked schedule - 12 games in 24 nights traveling thousands of miles through 4 timezones - which isn't something ANY goalie can stand up under. It wasn't fair to Koskinen but Tippett had little choice but to keep throwing him over the boards, so his results were poor over that stretch. I don't fault Koskinen for that, he did his best in an impossible situation.

If you pull those 12 games out of the equation to get a look at how he performs under normal circumstances, his save percentage over the past two seasons is .916, well above Georgiev's .908.

And before you blame NYR's defense, know that Koskinen faced 32.60 shots/60 to Georgiev's 31.99 SA/60 in all situations, and 32.34 SA/60 vs Georgiev's 31.03 at 5v5. Its not quality of shots either, as Koskinen has faced 8.50 HDSA/60 while Georgiev has faced 7.46.

It's a downgrade.

A 25 year old who's signed for 2.5m and putting up similar numbers is worth more than a 33 year old signed for 4.5m. Koskinen was also on a much better team. I'm not sure about big upgrade but Geo will likely continue to improve, Koskinen is more likely to decline.

@CD282 first thank you for your analysis of Georgiev.
I always hated when I saw an Eichel trade and the Ranger fan thought Buffalo would think of him as an asset.
@TheDime99 I suspect most Sabre fans would rail at your trade, but IMO that punches every ticket.
Trouba, Jacob ($1,500,000 retained) RHD He balances the cap and gives Buffalo four right handed NHL defensemen
Kakko, Kaapo young RW
Chytil, Filip young C
Gauthier, Julien young RW
2022 1st round pick (NYR) and 2023 1st round pick (NYR) Draft picks.
I would think most NYR fans would think this is a huge over pay as it is equal to at least 5 first round picks.
Trouba at $6,500,000 is still too much, but if the Sabres could retain half of that (am not sure of the rules on the second retention) to bring his salary down to 3,250,000 I would think there would be buyers.
Here is a deal, include Strome in the deal, and the rangers do not retain any of Trouba.
The Rangers, gain $2,500,000 cap next year even with Jack's salary.

He has more upside than Koskinen, but how much? That's an unknown - and in the meantime he's a downgrade. Nobody is going to pay for a downgrade, that's an unrealistic expectation.

Koskinen was also on a much better team.

Did you even read my post?!

"And before you blame NYR's defense, know that Koskinen faced 32.60 shots/60 to Georgiev's 31.99 SA/60 in all situations, and 32.34 SA/60 vs Georgiev's 31.03 at 5v5. Its not quality of shots either, as Koskinen has faced 8.50 HDSA/60 while Georgiev has faced 7.46."

Ranger's and Oilers haven't been that different over the past 2 years anyhow. The Rangers have had slightly better scoring and slightly worse goaltending (*cough*) to come up with similar results:

EDM: 3.20 GF/GP - 2.91 GA/GP = +0.29
NYR: 3.25 GF/GP - 2.98 GA/GP = +0.27

The Oilers were more efficient with their scoring, however, and managed to turn a basically identical goal differential into a .610 winning percentage (11th in the league), which was much better than NYR's .552 (18th).

Again, as you so eloquently stated, Koskinen was on a better team. You ask if I read your post but maybe you're the one that needs to reread it. In not as many words, Edmonton is the better team.

I'm glad that we can agree that Geo has more upside. You're right that no ones knows how much but given the fact that you've pointed out that their numbers are almost identical, the downgrade at the moment would be marginal at best and that's without factoring in that Koskinen, at 8 years older, makes 2m more.

Don't kid yourself. Edmonton's doing their best cap gymnastics right now. The 2m savings against the cap would probably be enough to want them to pay for the swap, I'm not sure if it would be a 1st but in no world is Geo a less valuable asset than Koskinen.

- Edmonton is better in part due to Koskinen being better than Georgiev
- The difference between Koskinen and Georgiev was not "marginal", .916 is a lot better than .908
- Since you're admitting that Koskinen is the better goalie maybe you can see that expecting Edmonton to add a 1st round pick is immensely stupid
