My rundown of a Matthews Marner split lineup

Description
Tavares reputation has always been making average players better so I think a line with bunting and Spezza could be good, Marner can give Spezza a rest a few times a night now that he is on the third line with slightly less minutes. And if Spezza really slows down just flip him and Kase.

I have a hard time imagining Spezza being able to handle those minutes over an 82 game season. Actually, I'm certain that he couldn't.

Sounds like Kerfoot will be playing LW.

I don't see any world where Keefe has Marner not playing in the top six. He led the league in ice time for forwards last year.

Clearly, Mikheyev and Engvall are not injured so, your cap is false here.

Still work to be done.

Just a little technicality… Brooks and Joey Anderson need to pass through waivers this year. I think they will get picked up if we don't leave them at scratches and try to send them down. Liljegren and Sandin don't.

Gabriel is NOT waiver exempt but losing him would be like losing Marincin or Saborin.

On topic though, I strongly agree with splitting up to three superstar, staggering high paid players on to different lines.

I knew Brooks would need waivers, that's why he is a scratch but I didn't really think about Anderson to be honest.

I am hoping with the same carp hit, that Joey Anderson could replace Spezza on the 3rd/4th line once Spezza finally retires. I hope my expectations aren't too high for Anderson but he seems like a decent bottom 6 player. Yesterday I went through the Leafs prospect list and I noticed he needs to clear waivers now.

More like:

Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
Kerfoot/Ritchie-Tavares-Marner
Kerfoot/Ritchie-Kampf-Kase/Simmonds
Robertson-Brooks-Spezza

Kerfoot/Ritchie can be moved between lines 2/3 depending on the situation.
Kampf was the 3C shutdown line in Chicago, and Dubas already said his addition moves someone to the wing (Kerfoot)
Simmonds seems to be the odd guy out tbh, unless Kase doesn't work out or to swap him in and give Spezza some rest as per their agreement of not playing back to backs.
A Robertson-Brooks-Spezza line would be extremely fun to watch.

Engvall will either be waived/traded, and Mikheyev likely traded. It's been said the organization wants to move on from these guys. I would rather keep Engvall and waive him because he's at least serviceable and can play the PK.
Mikheyev can be waived and buried as well if he doesn't get traded but he'll count as like 525k against the cap and leave them with roughly 50k in cap space in this scenario, not ideal but it works.

Brooks was good with Spezza last year, I don't get why everyone is sleeping on this guy still.

If Robertson doesn't work out and needs another year, send him back down and Simmonds fits in on the 4th line LW no problem.

I'm not sleeping on Brooks I think he will end up as the regular on the fourth line LW I just put Simmonds there to show the capability of grit
