TOR have around $3.5M in cap space once they send some guys down to the minors and are looking for a top six LW. Getting BUF to retain 50% and making Zuckers cap hit $2,750,000 would work nicely for TOR.

PIT recoups a similar asset to what they lost in the original Zucker deal, Addison = Liljegren.

BUF is like ARI and collecting draft picks to eat salary, as well as getting a solid defenseman in Juuso Riikola that can be flipped at the deadline to a competing team.

What if Hexy retained 50% on Jarry? PIT gets their goalie and at their preferred cost. Hawks pay $5.25M for Jarry this year...which is too much, but $1.75M next year.

It's ironic that these contracts line up so well. It makes it net zero.

You keep wanting Jarry retained or Crosby in exchange for Fleury. Jarry isn't Mikko Koskinen, he's a legit starter in this league this is still maturing, which this Pens core does not have time for. Jarry and Lankinen can be a solid 1A/1B duo for CHI for years to come. Jarry also fits better with the majority of the Hawks core (Dach, Debrincat, Nylander, etc.).

CHI would be getting assets for someone that does not want to be there and CHI didn't give anything up to aquire. Basically traded that former 5th round pick for Jarry and 4th Round Pick.

As a Leaf fan I definitely wouldn’t mind the idea of Zucker at that cap hit for 2 years. I am okay with the return to Pitt as well. Not sure Buffalo eats that kind of cap though without getting a bigger piece in return.

What I don't want is to go out of our way to do PIT / MAF favors. And that's what you keep posting. MAF and Jarry both have $7M owed. If each have 50% retained...then each still get 50%. It's literally a wash, BUT I do understand Jarry's is over 2 years. There has to SOME kind of benefit for the Hawks. a 4th rounder for eating $3.5M is a waste of cap space. If Jarry was legit...why is every PIT fan trying to dump him? You can't legitimately answer that. It's not possible. The reason PIT fans keep trading Jarry away for MAF is because MAF is better. Period. So why feed us bs and call it caviar. The Hawks don't want Jarry. They want MAF. If you want MAF...make a legit offer.

I would assume they would look at the third being a second. Don’t think they take on any cap as far as players and retain for 2 years. Maybe add a B- level prospect like SDA.

I stated multiple times why Pens rather have Fleury. Unless you guys want Zucker or Pettersson, it will have to be Jarry.

Jarry at 50% retention...Hawks think about it. I don't see how you can just assume MAF comes with retention and give nothing for it, BUT I can't just assume Jarry comes with retention and give nothing for it. I'm looking for equal. You're looking to hurt the Hawks. Jarry 50% retained is the same exact cap space as MAF 50% retained.

But why would the pens eat salary for an extra year?

No we’d have to retain on Fleury

Well, I don't even want to do the trade because the better the Hawks are this year...the less bad that 2022 1st will be going to CBJ...meaning MAF baby, but from a cap perspective.

A.) PIT saves $1.75M this year. Hawks retain $3.5M for MAF and PIT retains $1.75M for Jarry...PIT saves $1.75M while Malkin still has his final $9M cap it.
B.) Hawks take the cap pain this year and eat $1.75M this year ($3.5M - 1.75m = 1.75M) AND get $1.75M next year when Jones contract jumps.

That's what I mean by cap neutral.

If both teams retain it'll wash out...cap wise.

For one year. Fleury is 1 year, Jarry is 2.
