I only think the Pens do this if you remove the 2nd. Hextall is being VERY tight with the Pens picks and it would take a crazy deal for him to move a 2nd or 1st, but I also don't think CHI is going to have much leverage here.

What's the logic behind no leverage? Hawks can easily retain 50% and have 20 teams lined up for the current vezina winner. Maybe it's TOR? Maybe it's VAN? Maybe it's CAR?

Hawks will have to retain 50% is what I mean by leverage. Nobody is taking that full contract. Teams won't feel they have to sweeten the pot. Pettersson is a good dman. Him straight up for MAF at 50% would be fair given the situation. It may be different if there was more than one year left on MAF's deal, but you only have to eat for one.

You forget though, even with just one year left, teams like Pittsburgh who will always go for it with crosby and malkin around will always do what they can to compete. One year of the defending vezina winner? That’s worth more than pettersson no questions asked. Respectfully.

Rutherford is not our GM anymore lol. Pens would not make this trade. Hextall has been very transparent on moving any picks or prospects and this does not fall under the type of deal it would take.

If that’s the case though, why trade for Jeff carter? I agree Rutherford would have jumped at this, but Hextall has shown he wants the pens to stay competitive.

It's really hard to tell on him. He's got the goods, size, can skate and pass, but just unclear if he'll be able to keep up at the pro level. He looked lost in last year's camp, didn't make team canada and put up mediocre numbers this past season in the Q. At his age he should be destroying the Q.
