Why didnt Leafs go 7-3-1

Créé par: RockQuarrie

Description
This is possibly the Leafs forward group, as Dubas didn't protect McCann. Basically Dubas should be fired if the next season goes sideways again.

What was the point of trading for McCann?

So they have Kerfoot or McCann after the ED instead of neither.

If Seattle left us alone for Hollander and a 7th it’s still a good move.

Top 4 rhd don’t grow on trees. Dubas already knew who the kraken were taking before he traded for mccaan. It could very well be mccaan. Either way it has been carefully planned.

Don’t go trying to rationalize things with irrational leafs fans. That’s a one way ticket to a straight jacket… I type with my nose…

I hear you that top 4 D’s are hard to come by (Holl) but is he really a top 4 Dman? If not paired with Muzzin he is terrible, really bad. I get that the cost to keep the roster in tack was probably going to be higher than Hallander and a 7th, hence why they got McCann, but going 7-3–1 and exposing Holl and Dermott was the right play IMO.

    My guess was :

in this years 1st Round exit MTL exposed Flaunt No3 if you want to build Stanley Cup winning Roster

Flaunt no1 : inproperly built D for decades - adressed with bringing in Muzzin & Brodie ( with honorable mention of Bogosian ) where at least 2 D-men are able to excel in their own end

Flaunt No2 : no decent Backup - adressed and panned out beyond expectations, mainly cause of the things written above, sadly Andersen went down before he was able to wear himself off during 70 Games which would be No7 Game in 1st Round...but now the problem re-occures with only one above average Backup signed to the Team

Flaunt No3 : presented to you by MTL where their tactics focused on completely shut down first two lines ( same with WPG and VGK ) and exactly there is TBL excelling in last 2 years, having their bottom 6 as best as it can be, and those are bringing victories to home bay when playing against MTL and similar.

TML goes 7-3-1 after fleecing for McCann, leaving to SEA : F are Engvall & we know how Spezza draft would end, D are Holl and Dermott and G would be Hutchinson.

Hopefully Hakstol is blindsided about Holl as much as 98% of TML fan base, him being "TOP 4 D", so they pick him, Dermott fills next to Jake "the workhorse" Muzzin with same effect and for 500k less and also 5 years longer or even Liljegren can finally jump up, cause even Zaitsev looked decent next to Muzzin.

Andersen signed 2 x 3,8M, so he pushes his shares back up, finally playing behind decent D and being back to 2,38 GAA instead 2,8 GAA as he was in those years behind....., well you know behind what
Foligno signed 2 x 2,6M, orelse this years TDLs "all in" was one of the dumbest ive seen in last years where you shed 1st for a 33y old rental, where Hall costed 2nd

    2021 / 2022

Mikheyev - Matthews - Marner........it went well till kid cut his wrist
Galchenyuk - Tavares - Nylander......it went well till infamous Overtime pass failure
    Kerfoot - McCann - Foligno..............attempt of channeling Barclay - Gourde - Coleman
    Simmonds - Semyonov - Spezza.....and Brooks

Rielly - Brodie......................................tho i would "dump" Rielly for Sandin and bring another Muzzin over off-season
    Muzzin - Dermott
Sandin - 1,6M left in my simulation

And now Dubarelli went with protecting Holl, i mean really ?

To those who are backing the ED decision as "if we only lose 7th and Hållander, we are ok with Team left intact"....well that "intact Team" just failed in 1st Round....again
