Savard gets way more. TB doesn't consider that trade it is garbage for TB no chance they give up a top pair RHS defenseman on a club friendly contract as Cap fodder.

Seems cheap to me too.

As you can see it's a one year deal so he gets to be probably the best RD on Tampa and he gets to play for a really good team. He gets a bigger contract next year. Could do this with a number of different guys in their late 20's. (Shattenkirk)

Alternatively...Devils could sign and trade Savard and retain half.
1-year, $4 million deal, half retained to $2 million.
But would have to be after becomes UFA, so after expansion draft (if that matters).

Or could acquire and retain another RD option.
Schultz was one that came to mind.

Mike Smith is looking at a 3 million dollar contract in Edmonton and multiple other teams are interested. I dont think this is close to Jason Spezza situation where Smith takes league minimum. He's also not that backup type as he loves to play
