Description
Just reading on one of tsn1260s web pages that apparently there's a market out there for Koskinen.. I couldn't tell you why. But they said it would be with retention. I just looked for a team that had not many goalies. or what just looking for whatever or a bad contract from them but they didn't seem to have any

Well kosk is a decent goalie just not a 4.5 million dollar one with a flat cap. Lowering his cap hit and the limited term is a fair and good gamble for a lot of teams he’s decent enough id consider just letting him play out his final year here.

He's gone dude. LoL he isn't good. If he needs 5 days rest in between games I'd rather pay him on another team than see him on ours. We need more consistent saves. He was absolute garbage. Good thing Holland does want to get younger in net. We can't waste no more time with him. 4 years of him ( trying to include him in next one ) is a drain on our team . 4 goals on 4 shots. That's worse than dubynk.

As a Nashville fan, I'd take Koskinen at a reduced price to back up Saros. We're in the market for a backup with Rinne retiring. He had decent numbers for the 1st two seasons in the NHL. Nothing amazing but pretty average.

What is your plan for goaltending? Andersen has a worse sv% over the past two seasons than Koskinen does. Andersen has played more games but that's alot of money and years to devote to someone that stat wise doesn't look like much of an upgrade (if at all)

Look at the team that's played in front of him. I'm not saying Edmonton's defense is any better. But Oilers will need to over pay for someone guy. Plus hes going to want term. I'd love it to be lower. But Oilers will, like always need to over pay for a goalie. He's been pretty consistent for a long time. But he makes more consistent saves instead of them going right through him like Koskinen. I'm not going to lie. He's terrible. LoL. Out of all the goalies out there he's probably the better long term solution one. Who knows. Ive always liked the guy. I wish the Oilers paid the price for him 5 years ago

Also gotta note that one of the top goalies in the north Division was Smith. So it was a really really backwards year. LoL!

Yeah you're right he's been quite consistently in the 91.6 sv % area since coming into the NHL until these last two years and his sv% in the playoffs is typically pretty good. Atleast your AGM isn't hitching your success to a 39 year old Mike Smith. Term for Andersen just seems a bit much for the decreased performance over the past 2 seasons. Though if he can get back to his typical form it's not bad. Just a gamble and he's only 31.

He had one bad game last year… his bigger downfall was letting in an early goal fairly consistently which does suck but he typically played solid afterwards. His numbers from this past season aren’t anything to write home about but when you dig deeper into it he was pretty good. Started the season as the only goalie in town so was over worked and on top of that remember how poor the Defense was for the first couple weeks they were all garbage that reflects more on the goalie than them. Rested kosk is a good kosk very capable of splitting starting duties 50-50 in fact some might suggest myself included that a more even split would help prevent those first shot goals more because he’s more engaged in regular games rather than sitting for two weeks then see game action. Problem with retaining on him then bringing someone new that’s better is you have to put whatever retention on top of the new goalies salary so in this case your basically paying Anderson 8 million next year. extension talks with smith if he comes back and plays anywhere close to the level of last year you just doubled the budget for his back up attaching term to another goalie who isn’t exactly young. With that all being said goaltending decisions is the only real thing can’t agree on with the team you constructed I do like some of the other pick ups like Ryan could be a very underestimated help to the team. Hoffman wouldn’t be top choice but would be interested to see how it plays out.

It hasn't just been this year he's let in the first goal. You think our team always wants to start from behind on extremely bad goals in the first period?! It's pretty deflating . Or we score a go ahead goal and the next shot goes in. It's not looking for the extraordinary save. It's just the next save after a big momentum Swing. It's cheaper to retain him then have him count against the cap for 2 more years. So don't be surprised when it happens. Is it going to be half?! I really don't think so. But that's worst case Ontario .

I would not bring back Smith. Especially for 2 million,so if Freddy is 8 million for the first year. So be it. Bobrovsky makes 10 million alone... And lost the starting job lol! I think Oilers fans ..gotta let go of Smith. He had a good season. But that will not be duplicated. He was one of the top goalies in the div. LoL

Oilers just need a good goal scorer. We never get the top Free agents.. so he might be our best bet lol
