Kessel loves CTC hotdogs

Description
Arizona doesn't have to retain on the Kessel trade. Ottawa has more than enough cap space. It's more to help Arizona to reach the floor than to help Ottawa from exceeding the cap limit, since it's an expiring contract. The dollars are nearly negligible compared to most NHL salaries.

If Gustavsson or Daccord are chosen in the expansion draft, then parker goes back to Belleville until a trade can be worked out for Tierney.

  1. Kessel, Phil (3 400 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Arizona is severely under the cap floor, but with Kessel's $1MM salary, the retained is almost exclusively cap space
ARI
  1. Dadonov, Evgeni
  2. Mete, Victor
Détails additionnels:
Dadonov does not have an 8 team trade list, and gives much more flexibility to trade at the TDL, and with his extra contract season, wouldn't be an expiring contract for potential suitors.

Mete is a 23 year old LD/RD with 199 NHL games. The Coyotes didn't have room to claim Mete last season, but could use him moving forward.

Détails additionnels:
Brännström is exempt from the expansion draft.

OTT
  1. Henrique, Adam (2 912 500 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Without retention, Anaheim would need to pay to unload the Henrique contract.

If there was only one season left, then the retention and 5th round pick gets rid of the contract. Subsequent years of retention garner higher value assets.

One asset per year of retention
first season is the 5th round pick
second season is the 3rd round pick
third season is the 2nd round pick

The further out the retention, it requires a higher value asset

not sure why we're giving up a promising young D for a guy we could have for a mid-round pick post-expansion draft

This is a variance on a Simmer idea. I think he doesn't see a long term spot for Brannstrom in Ottawa, and there's a trend to big, quick, D that can shoot, after these playoffs.

Graves is a good player to allow Sanderson to get up to speed to overtake him on the depth chart. It doesn't matter which of them is on the 2nd pair if only one of them is paid like it. Graves plays the way the Sens want their 2LD to play.

All in all though, it's just conversation.

Simmers version didn't have the picks included, so we all seem to agree, swap out the picks a bit and see what you guys think is fair, I'm curious too since I thought the pick swap wasn't enough but was being conservative.

tbf simmer is also a known brannstrom hater, avs wouldnt have enough leverage to get brannstrom for graves with the expansion draft imo

I didn't know this, I've only recently been unblocked by him on twitter, lol.

Sometimes it seems like he's throwing poop at the wall to see what sticks, lol

I like Graves and think he could be a useful piece, but he could be had for a 2nd+3rd max, if not from Colorado then from Seattle after they select him if they decide to keep other guys (they have like 8 or 9 pretty good D available to them that they could take in Skjei, Gio, Miller, Dunn, Shattenkirk, de Haan, etc.). Saying Brannstrom isn’t part of the long term plans seems kinda silly when he’s got oodles of talent and is just coming into his own. If he does get dealt it won’t be for a guy the other team will lose for nothing, they have no leverage, and Brannstrom’s honestly worth more at this point anyway. It would have to be for a young-ish top 6 C/RW or high end C/RW prospect.
