No chance that the Islanders expose Scott Mayfield instead of 30-year-old short-timer Nick Leddy, who's the only other choice on defense.

klefbom, debrusk, marchment, and backlund will be protected

I'd like to remind you all this is not my personal opinion. This was something I did for fun using team fan pages protection lists. This is how it turned out.

Klef might retire and Marchment isn’t worth protecting yet. Backlund is old and the contract isn’t very good, but he’s a solid centerman so that could go either way. Debrusk for sure gets protected.

If Klef doesn’t retire before the XD he’s probably getting protected, he’s said he wants to play again and the Oilers can’t exactly afford to sacrifice top pair blueliners on good contracts if there’s a chance he’ll play again. Backlund’s contract is fine, he’s still producing at exactly the same rate he always does (around 15-20 goals, 45-50 points, great defensive player/PKer), and while Gawdin is solid, his ceiling is probably what Backlund is now lol. Marchment will come down to him vs. Hornqvist, Horny’s better but Marchment wasn’t bad on the top line and will be significantly cheaper so they might expose Hornqvist over him.
