Danault is gonna cost much more than that. No thanks on Palmeiri at that cap hit. No thanks to Savard on first pair. Ned and Hakanpaa will get more although I’d be fine not bringing Hakanpaa back. Connor would be sweet but no chance that gets him here. And we definitely should be protecting Nino.

Why does everyone keep saying that Hakanpaa is going to get more? The guy is a career journeyman with less than a full season of NHL experience at the age of 29, he has proved absolutely nothing. If he's trying to demand a cent over $1M, send him packing and find a better replacement.

I’d like to see him gone regardless of what deal he would accept. Think he’s a 7D on a true contender. However I think he’ll end up getting 1.5M just based on what I’ve read from so called experts. He’s worth what teams are willing to spend and for some reason he impressed a lot of people while with the Canes but personally I didn’t see much.

I agree with everything you've said, but he has impressed some because he is big and hits a lot. GMs (and fans) love players like that. Not many 6'5 RHD getting less than 1 million.

You guys might be right, but if he's really gonna get that kind of money I hope the Canes walk away and let someone else do it. I know its a popular style to watch, but I just can't believe that being big and hitting a lot are enough reason to get a $1.5M NHL payday in 2021 instead of being an effective defenseman. Its mind boggling. Like you said, I think he's a 7D/tweener type at best, I didn't see anything else from him to suggest a bigger role and more money than that. I'd much rather have a guy like TVR back at that kind of salary.

I think TVR was extended by Washington, but I agree. I was just saying why I thinking he would get that type of money.
