Never said they should be looking to get much for him. They should be looking to dump that term. Salary retention should absolutely be on the table

Only trick I think you might have missed is, as @Nhl_oilers says, re-signing Michael Bunting. He should be cheap enough, and I didn't like his physical style when he played here (against both my crummy local teams).
