No thanks, the only player I would want from Toronto is Alex Kerfoot.

Seems like an awful lot of contract shedding for a player that you're going to end up hating...

Which is crazier, Dougie to the Leafs, or getting a 1st for Reilly? If Reilly was worth a 1st, you probably shouldn’t trade him. Sign him for 2-2.5AAV less than Dougie.

The Pens have Dumoulin, Matheson, Pettersson, POJ and Riikola signed on the left side, plus Hextall has made it widely known that they're going to be very stingy when it comes to moving major futures at this point. They haven't ruled out moving futures, but it's going to take a serious move and one year of Reilly isn't that move.

I believe the Pens would say no immediately.

Similarly to how the Leafs were supposed to hate Brodie?

I'm not a Leafs fan, but I thought it was a pretty solid add for them last year. As a Ducks fan, I 100% wanted Brodie over Shatty. Was disappointed when we went the other way.

I guess I should have prefaced that with "Seems like an awful lot of contract shedding for a player that that weirdly large group of Leafs fans who don't like nice things are going to end up hating...

Sort of similar to how *that group* hates Marner now, thinks Willy is lazy (Until he was good in the playoffs...), wants to trade away the teams best dman (Ahhhh crap, might lose him so better move him as a rental somewhere else!!!), hated Kadri until he got moved and they realized that Barrie/Kerfoot wasn't the answer, etc. etc. etc.

I think you have to combine them to show the crazier end of it...Leafs move their best dman as a rental so that they can potentially chase a dman who may or may not sign with them.

I'd absolutely say Rielly is worth a 1st+decent prospect. He's outstanding. The part I think is funny is that it's a "Hey, we can't lose him for nothing!" thing...as a Canes fan, do you regret not moving Dougie at the deadline because you didn't win the cup? I doubt it.

Obviously the Leafs wouldn't move Rielly if they weren't getting Hamilton. It's the idea that Hamilton replaces Rielly since he probably won't be back next year. It's bad asset management if they don't shop him around and see what they can get if they have a chance to sign Dougie

Sure, but wouldn't you essentially have to move Rielly first, since if you signed Hamilton, you'd be over the cap, which turns the Rielly situation into a "Nate Schmidt" situation of sorts, where his value gets squashed by the fact that you now *have* to move him, and have a deadline to do so?

I absolutely think that Hamilton would be a good signing for the Leafs, but I really don't a situation where a bunch of teams flock to save you from your impending cap issues.

I’ll do it one better…

How about Leafs send Reilly to Canes for Douiges rights and Leafs can sign he to an 8 year deal.
