I am struggling to understand why so many people want Meier, or why they want to give up a lot of assets for him.

Have you watched him a lot? Or are you just looking at the basic stats?

Doesn't really answer my questions, but I've seen Devil's fans on this website consider Meier a 4th liner almost.

Devils have made the playoffs once in the last five years. I wonder if it's time to change the "fit".

I see Meier as top 6, but I think the top 2 lines (Zacha/ Hischier/ Bratt - Kuokanen/ Hughes/ Sharangovich) stay like that unless Mercer, Holtz, Boqvist, or Foote kill it in camp.

The Devils fan base likes how he played with Hischier at the WC so they create an AGM that low balls SJ for him,.

The last part you said doesn't make any sense. Devils haven't made the playoffs because they're rebuilding

Meier has been regressing every year and Shark fans have said he shows a "lack of effort" at times when the game isn't close. That's not going to cut it in NJ. He's going to have a tough time under Ruff

Plus the Devils have a ton of winger depth. Sharangovich, Bratt, and Zacha all out preformed Meier last year. Foote, Holtz, Mercer will make the NHL within the next 1-2 years. No room for Meier

I don't see him as a 4th liner, but he won't be able to get enough playing time and confidence to rebound in NJ.

I would love to hear what a "fair" offer for Meier is

I want to point out I don't think there is a good trade between NJD/SJS for Meier. I'm just rolling my eyes every time I see a trade for him and all people offer is a 2nd or something followed by saying he's garbage.

Using his last year to determine his abilities is a bad move. The Sharks have underpeformed collectively as a group for two seasons due to injuries, coaching changes, and more.

I do Agree with you about SJS and NJD not being good trade partners for Meier and a 2nd not being enough for Meier. But Sharks fans have to realize they won't get full value for Meier. His production has been declining and his contract is pretty expensive (not sure if it's true but I heard the last year of his deal is $10 M and his qualifying offer is $10 M). No team is going to buy high on Meier and hope he rebounds.

The max the Devils would offer for Meier is Kuokkanen+2nd or Boqvist/Merkley + Islanders 1st.

You can make the excuse that Meier has produced less due to the Sharks being bad, but guys like Kuokkaken have produced similarity to Meier in a harder division, worse linemates, and lower role

Meier for Reinhart. The Sharks need young high end center talent. Devils fans offer a late 1st and 2 players they don’t mind giving up who don’t fit what the Sharks need. Pretty much all the Timo to NJ deals are proposed by devils fans. Sharks fans know there probably isn’t a deal to be made with NJ.

Then he will remain a Shark. I doubt he is being shopped and the Sharks have no reason to move him unless they like the return.

Sabres wouldn't do that deal. And it's not only Devils fans that do Meier to NJ offers (I haven't done any). Shark fans do it too

His value has been going down with his production going down. No team is going to buy high on Meier. And his value is going to keep dropping if his production keeps dropping
