Imo it's too much for Marner.

Given the situation where DET is currently in, it'd be completely pointless to move young parts of their long-term project to a player who just won't help their retool at all. If they were closer to a playoff spot, then maybe, but even then they absolutely wouldn't move their best D-man in a lateral move that would just create holes and f*ck their cap situation.

Pass. Marner isn't worth paying 11 mil a year. Besides Shanny says he isn't being traded. Leafs are happy with their big 4.

Thank you but no thank you. Does address Detroit's needs, but the timeline is off and it creates more needs.
With some draft picks you could make the value fine, but it just isnt the kind of move Detroit should make. If Bertuzzi is getting dealt it is in a similar trade to the Mantha trade.

I think if Detroit was 2 years further along it would make more sense. By then Hronek, as good as he is, would be more expendable with Seider being the top RD on the team. We’d still need a top 4 RD but having a winger like Marner would be worth the trade IMO.

Marner/Larkin/Vrana
Zadina/Veleno(?) or Berggren(?) or ?/ Raymond

Not a bad top 6

The devil is in the details. What exactly do you mean by "Picks to even it out"?

That said, thank you for the first honest Marner trade. It only took 1,000 before someone figured out that the combination of a huge contract and a "loser" tag (probably unfair, but it's there) means the Leafs can expect to get a collection of useful players and prospects, but they're almost certainly not getting a superstar or top prospect in return.

Toronto isn’t trading Marner for Picks and prospects instead of keeping him. They’d only trade him for a better player like Eichel

So id be willing to move bert and mcaasic but adding hronek is too much. Maybe a 2nd rounder.

It's also one of the first I've seen where more defensemen than forwards are coming to Toronto. It amazes me that so many (not all) Leafs fans think the answer is to bring more forwards.

Leafs are so in love with their studs and duds approach. Quality depth always has and always will win in the playoffs. Leaf fans will tell me Kerfoot and Spezza are studs. But why have the Leafs failed to win a playoff round 5 years in a row now? They have the same number of playoff round wins as the Red Wings do the past 5 years.
