Sigh.. Maybe we can throw in a few first round picks while we are at it? Maybe a few shares in MLSE?

Honest question.

Drop the picks and Hayton.

Chychrun
Kuemper (extended 4 x 5 mil)
Garland (rights but a deal would be in place)

For #34

You turn it down?

Edit Toronto also gives Morgan

This would be closer:

To Arizona: Matthews
To Toronto: Hayton, Crouse, Chychrun, Soderstrom, Kuemper, '21 2nd Rounder (CLB), '22 1st Rounder, and '23 1st Rounder

You game??

To be fully honest I didn’t think it was that far off with the cap now projected to not go up for another 4 years. Chycrun is making 4.5 as a top line d man, that’s gotta be one of the best contracts right now in the covid cap era. If garland has to go, I think the deal gets done and everyone leaves satisfied

I'll answer for him (and I am the furthest thing from a Leafs fan!) . . . . . . Yes, I turn that down.

Here’s the question for you guys though. Cap isn’t moving, Toronto needs a shakeup. Who is going to give them equal or greater value for marner, that also is on a fantastic contract? It’s the same issue Tampa is going to have this summer. Teams have them over the salary cap barrel, you don’t want to give away a star for the sake of doing it, so matthews for a package might be the best route to gaining value. Or do nothing and run it back. I haven’t been suffering as long as Toronto fans so I’ll let them pick their poison

"toronto needs a shakeup' is not how logical people attack a problem.

like 15 of their players are leaving right now anyway.

They be shook

Fair enough point. I think the quality of players and opened cap flexibility that comes from freeing up a star on almost a $12 mil contract for one on a $4.5 contract plus added pieces would entice Toronto. You seem to be on the same page as far as pulling the trigger if you swap garland in there as well

agree 100%

I obviously would move Marner before Auston and i've been pitching Marner deals for 18 months and everyone and I mean EVERYONE responded with "Nah just move Nylander he's trash" thinking that 7 mil and 11 mil is the same thing. but since Arizona was brought up I went with it.

If I was Dubas, Marner would have been in Anaheim or Nashville prior to 2020 and Toronto would have a Forsberg/Ekholm package or a Manson/Rakell/Comtois package. and cap would be easier, depth would be more spread, Kapanen would still be there and Foligno would never have set foot in my door.

Absolutely agree. Would I trade matthews before marner? God no. But I’ve been seeing the cap isn’t going up now until after 24-25. I think that about guts marner’s trade value at this point. Is he a top line winger? Absolutely, but I don’t know who’s going to give up equal or greater value to toronto at this point for the pleasure of an $11m winger. I think the Anaheim and Nashville boat has sailed, so you might be forced into looking into a matthews deal, and you could do far worse when trading him than what has been discussed. This certainly isn’t a o’reily Buffalo deal situation
