This team clearly needs a shakeup, however I am going to go against the tide here and keep Marner, instead trading Rielly.
The Major Trade:
It seems that a terrible last few playoff runs has clouded everyone's view of how good Marner actually is. The poor performances seem to be caused by errors between the ears due to pressure, rather than a lack of skill or hockey iq. Let's not forget that Marner is an elite player, finished top 5 in scoring this year, and was on pace for a 30-69-99 season over a full 82. Trading him now when his trade value is rock bottom in the eyes of most people and moving him for a bag of pucks (as I've seen suggested) simply to clear cap space is extremely poor asset management. I am open to trading Marner, but only if it brings back elite talent the other way (e.g. Eichel, Hughes) which I see as quite unlikely.
Rielly on the other hand, has just come off a strong playoff series, playing well on both ends of the ice. Rielly is one of my favorite Leafs, but with one year left on a great deal after which a major payday will likely be due, it does not make sense to keep the 27 year old (unless you can sign him to a sweetheart deal, unlikely). Rielly's trade value is pretty high and you can likely acquire a scoring top 6 forward (+ extras in some cases).
The Pending UFAs:
You have to keep Spezza, he has already said he wants to come back, and will likely take another minimum deal to do so.
Hyman is great, a fan favourite, but I sense that his ticket price will be quite high and given the game that he plays, he could be prone for a decline in a few years. I'd be open to bringing him back, but he would have to take a discount, which he may or may not do. My max offers would be: 5x3, 4.7x4, 4.5x5, 4x6, 3.7x7, 3.5x8. He likely doesn't take these but on the upside, it gives the team another way to shake things up.
I'd be open to bringing Simmonds back, as long as the contract <1 million, and he's not a guaranteed regular.
I'd be willing to give Bogosian up to 1.5 million.
Foligno probably wants to go back to Columbus, but if he's willing to return, I'd give him up to 2.5M
Bye bye Jumbo.
Bye bye Freddy.
Goalie Targets (for the tandem with Campbell):
Chris Driedger
Linus Ullmark
Top 6 Defense Targets:
Jamie Oleksiak
Mike Reilly
Ryan Murray
Adam Larsson
Zach Bogosian
Top 9 Winger Targets:
Mike Hoffman
Blake Coleman
Zach Hyman
Mikael Granlund
Tomas Tatar
Brandon Saad
Nick Foligno
Jaden Schwartz
Ryan Dzingel
Left quite a bit of cap space open, enough to bring back Hyman or another one of the defence targets. Also can be used if some of my contracts for the UFA targets are too low. Let me know what you all think!
Fair enough, I figured that with an aging Giordano and assuming Rielly signs an extension, they would do it. Especially as they are probably desperate to shake things up and make a run while Gio is still playing. My alternate targets would be someone like Garland (straight up) or Kempe
Flames decline. We need Mangiapane more than Reilly. We have enough LD in the system and no one with Mangiapanes skills to replace him

One year of Reilly isn't worth that much to a non playoff team. Maybe a contender. Mangiapane has term at just might be a long term long term contract and the pick could be 15th overall

Terrible for calgary, they have hanifin who is better than Reilly and they need to give valimaki top 4 mins so he can develop. Flames very easily decline
