VAN is not moving Podkolzin

poeple was yelling at me when i was making trade with jones at the start of season they said he was not going to move and see what we learn recently :P

I think our Right side is set on defense. I also think the organization is satisfied with the right side. It's fairly evident how Schmidt sucks on the left side and is pretty solid on the right. This is part of his slow start is that Green attempted to first use him on the left.

If defense, our need is without a doubt a partner for Schmidt - an Edler replacement to fill the 2nd LD spot. I expect Benning to pursue a Murray type FA, or maybe trade for Zadorov, Graves etc.

Still, the team's largest weakness is that our bottom six is awful - the worst in the league - Below AHL level. Bozak is a nice start, but our defense alone is sufficient so long as we aren't always in our own zone -- that starts by actually having an offense. I think the front office also sees the middle six as the largest area for upgrade on our roster. We know that our third line sucks and thus need to do something about it.

What remains uncertain is if aggressive means quality or quantity - I'm kind of expecting quantity. I don't really see a top line or top pair move.

Though, I totally get why you made this assumption that resulted in this build. There's a fringe % chance of it. That's reduced by signing Pod first - if we were wanting to trade him, we wouldn't have signed him first.

I’m…not against this. Though I think CBJ would try to have some level of assurance in case VAN rebounds and makes a deep run in 2022. Maybe like a, “If VAN makes the playoffs, CBJ have the option to defer for a year.”

Lmao no chance Jim is trading Podkolzin. Pods is the exact type of player Jim values more than anything else.

Jim May go all in of Jones but Podkolzin would be untouchable imo that trade, in almost certain

Benning would be fired, if he made that trade for a one year rental in Jones.

I understand the hesitancy to move Pod in a trade like this, but if you're going to land Jones there is no alternative. Hoglander is out of the question and I don't think anyone else piques Yarmo's interest. Jones is rightly or wrongly (wrongly) going to bring back a monster haul and with the Pacific being so weak next season and Bim at the helm I think he is going to be willing to go all out.

Honestly, I looked at your system and your 3rd best prospect won't get it done. Its Pod or nothing if a trade like this were to happen. Good luck if it does.

I think Bim has nudes of Aquilini or something, because most GMs with his level of performance would have been fired long ago. I'm not sure he can be fired. Plus he has made moves like this before (but on lesser scales) with Toffoli. This wouldn't be out of character for him.
Besides, the plan would obviously be to extend him.

Myers, Schmidt, Hughes, Rathbone - all offensively inclined. We need a higher end Edler replacement. A top 4 defensive oriented guy. And ideally on the left.

VAN needs: 2nd pair LD (DFD/TWD), 3rd liner (all positions), 2nd line wing (I don't think this happens yet, but it's a big reason for all of the Reinhart mocks).

The owner is more of a problem than Jim himself. most of the bad moves jim has made are overshadowed by some interference of the ownership. And, of course ownership won't rid a puppet. He's doing exactly what Aquaman wants him to do. Aqua has literally zero patients. Only way we didn't have an Ottawa level rebuild (and thus lost Linden) is because of Aqua.

(Beagle, Vrbata, Miller, Eriksson, Myers - all heavily scream owner interference. Who goes out and gets competitive pieces mid rebuild? A money crazed owner who wants butts in expensive seats, obviously. And Jim knew if he didn't get these pieces, he would be long gone, so to save his head he overpays them)

If podz is required then JB won’t do it. I can pretty much guaruntee. Podz will be on the team next year, Benning has publicly said he thinks podz would be a good fit with horvat and Pearson, which means top 6 minutes. He ha a previously declined to include Podkolzin in other big name trades, including Oliver ekman-larsson.

Jim has also stated he think the Canucks will be a contender in 2 years. This trade does not lien up with that time line at all, as Jones could end up being a 1 year rental and he is selling a lot of future to make this trade.

Just because Jim is a bad GM doesn’t mean he would do something so out of character for him in the past. Podz is simply not available, even for Jones
