Leafs decline, were a cap team and adding extra salary doesn't make sense. And Kerfoot has really solidified his place on this team.

At 5 million for 3 more years he is. That takes away Hyman's resigning money, And Reilly's for next year. Not to mention causes issues with Robertson taking a top 6 spot. Plus the NTC is not an option to take on. He's not a bad player, but the Leafs have much bigger priorities to sign. Others include Galchenyuk, Spezza (though he'll be league min), Simmonds, a second goalie. All with less than $12 mil available next year (currently). Plus he's been steadily declining each year since signing his deal.

Maybe there's a deal to be made after Seattle if Toronto loses Hyman to UFA and another good contract to Seattle but before that there is no deal here.

It's all about his cap hit for the leafs..they have to be very careful with cap usage.
