Description
So I have been thinking about the goalie situation we have in Vancouver. IMO I believe that we could get some decent value of we trade Markstrom. His numbers are pretty solid and he is pretty young so he would do well on a rebuilding team......Enter the Arizona Coyotes.

Markstrom could be a solid goalie for there for years to come and not to mention his contract is pretty decent. So my proposal is such that we trade Markstrom for Duclair and a 2017 2nd round draft pick which would be like a late 1st (depending on the opinions of you folks it may have to be a 3rd round pick).

We would then sign Miller to a two year deal as he seems to like being here in Vancouver even though he will never win a cup here or in his career. We would also have to make a trade for a backup as I doubt JB and TL would want Bachman, Demko or Garteig as the backup for next year.

So we are pretty much waiting for Demko and Garteig to be ready to be the 1-2 punch (Garteig is looking pretty solid and has a chance to be a solid goalie in the NHL).

Duclair and a high second round pick seems like way too much for Markstrom. Although the Coyotes need a goalie, I doubt Markstrom is a target for them. I think a much more likely scenario is they draft their goalie of the future this year, or they make a trade for one (most likely Jarry from Pittsburgh or Vanecek from Washington)

Yea the description says I would more than likely do a 3rd but I could be optimistic. I dunno both those goalies are pretty young and unproven at the NHL level. I understand what zona is doing but still you may want just a little more experience as a netminder. Appreciate the comments though

As a Nucks fan of some sort, this team is seriously screwed up. They dont know if they want to rebuild or go for the playoffs. Obviously, their team is not close enougn to beimg playoff worthy, both on paper and especially when they play (which is excrutiating to watch). Markstorm is young for a goalie and isnt in his prime yet. Miller will probably retire in some years. With guys like Horvat, Boeser, Stecher, Juolevi and Baertschi starting to take over from guys like the Sedins, they need to enfore the rebuild. They shouldnt think about the playoffs. Let the guys that I mentioned above as well as other young guys become solid NHL players so that they have a chance at winning the Cup. Hansen needs to get traded while he has solid value for picks or prospects, Edler should leave in a few years, and then when the Sedins and Burrows retire or are playing on the third line because there are actual first and second liners in the team, then the Canucks should start thinking playoffs. They have some nice young players that if they form a team out of all of them in 6-7 years the Canucks could be a major force.

And there is no way Arizona would accept that.

So, what's in it for Coyotes.? They have Smith and Dominique. Smith is good goalie and backups are cheaper than a higher second rounder and Duclair.

Smith has been having a tough year in Arizona and has shown symptoms of getmeoutofhere disease. Seems like a in time he will need a fresh start. Domingue has been okay I will admit but Markstrom and Domingue could be a decent 1-2 punch.

The second may be a bit high so a 3rd May be the better option but that it was worth the debate

As for the philosophical argument. I am in agreement that the Canucks need to make a decision on their direction but I don't know the desire for current Canucks players to leave now the management to trade them. JB and TL may consider the vets too valuable as role models for the next generation of Canucks that they are willing to lose them for nothing, this includes burrows, Edler and the Sedins. They could trade Hansen but I think they love his character as well. This whole rebuild on the fly will happen with no additional picks nor trades.

True, but the problem is that were the Canucks to rebuild, it would probably be AT LEAST 4 to 5 years for them to be going into a season with a team that looks like a playoff possibility. By that time, Hansen will be 35, Miller will be 41, Burrows will be 40 and the Sedin twins will be 41. Of course, veterans are important, but lets face it: guys like Hansen and Burrows wont be around in 5 years. Remember Chris Higgins? He was like 32 but he was kicked out of the team. So what Im saying is while Hansen's value is still high, they should trade him, this deadline or the next one. Im fine with Burrows sticking around but since Hansen can get a solid return back he should leave. Maybe the Nucks can get a first round pick and a prospect for him and Miller together, say to Edmonton. A rebuild on the fly is what JB wants to do under pressure from ownership to win, but it wont work. Look at the Leafs and Oilers and how long it took them. But now they are pretty dangerous teams after the rebuild. Right now, Canuck fans should be praying for Nolan Patrick or a top 3 pick to come to Vancouver.

Wild still need a goalie under contract next year so they can protect Dub. Stalock is probably going to be that guy.

I don't disagree with what you are saying. With the people they have in place it did seem unlikely that the fanbase was unwilling to make the sacrifices necessary to get this team to where it needs to go.

I for one am down for everything you say but it appears as if that many of the players that are difficult to move have no desire to get out of Vancouver. As a native Vancouverite i can't blame them for not wanting to leave. As management they would have to Uber incentivize getting out of vancouver
