You really aren’t grasping the convo...you want to talk about one certain thing when ignoring the Dozen other metrics here

No one is discrediting “skill or eye tests” as you put it for “numbers”. Skilled plays can still be tracked with primary points, controlled zone exits etc etc, it takes skill to do those things, you want got use the build up of a moment to an end result as a weird metricX

If there was value in tracking kicking pucks to your stick let 60, guys would track it

Data is projecting and tracking of information, I don’t see how using non qualifiable descriptors like “expertly” “perfect” strengthen you’re counter points, it’s just buzz words trying to make what is pretty routine in every game as a skill set that can’t be tracked,

No no, I’m using one example to represent the hundreds of thousands of scenarios that analytics can’t capture. I could go on and on forever.
1. D man makes a breakout pass to player x. The pass sucks, it’s in the players skates. He gets lucky and manages to play it off his skates in stride. An effective, but lucky breakout.
2. D man makes a breakout pass to player x. The pass is perfect. On his tape in stride. Skillful breakout.

To analytics its all the same.

pretty sure CMcAvoy53 is BCarlo25. He joined on the last day the latter posted.

Not adding anything to the discussion, just letting you guys here know you've definitely had this argument before with this same person.

Do you really believe that nhl teams who invest heavily into analytics aren’t tracking certain data that the general public isn’t accustomed too. Teams aren’t logging into website to look this up, they are tracking it and building their own models

Bc you don’t think it tells you “skills” doesn’t mean nhl teams and people who are leaders in that field haven’t

The first example you gave isn’t a clean zone exit and it’s tracked at such. The second would be tracked as a controlled exit. Now I’m positive you don’t what metrics are being tracked just trying yo throw something at the wall

But it is a clean exit.

Honestly what i think is that analytics represent a tiny tiny portion of NHL decision making. Like 2% or something like that. I’m guessing the analytics guys are really annoyed by how much they get overruled.

You really are a state your opinion as facts kind of guy

Since there is no point continuing this conversation, have a good one believing that the nhl is still in the 1990s of talent evaluations

When I start sentences with things like, “i think,” and, “I’m guessing,” it takes a special kind of spin to come back and say, “oh you state your opinion is fact.”

Might want to brush up on your english pal.

Nah man this in regardless to the whole conversation, and like the majority of it. You ignore what has been said to focus on something entirely different

Have a good one. Enjoy white knighting for “eye tests”

Enjoy doing everything possible to avoid the intellectual effort of forming an opinion of your own.
