Description
I swear this fanbase is probably the worst in hockey. Stop overreacting to one freaking game you bunch of reactionary babies. If you want to do an autopsy on the season or talk about how you want to blow the team up, wait until the season is over. After a great game a bunch of fans talk about how this team is so great and they’re going to do a lot of damage, and after a bad game they come out with knives and pitchforks yelling to burn the team down. Actually, now that I think about it, option 2 happens no matter the outcome of the games for some people.

See what happens down the stretch and (likely) in the playoffs before yelling for heads to roll. If you want to have a civil discussion about lineup decisions right now, that would be great and appropriate. But beware of making pronouncements about the roster before seeing how things turn out.

I agree with you. TBH its not on the GM or the coach (to a certain extent) its about the top players not performing consistently. If they were playing to their potential, no one would be crying right now

The leafs fanbase will challenge you for that title lol. Just saw a post earlier suggesting that Weber and Staal need to take a seat, I hope he meant for a one game rest as they're older or else that's preposterous. When the leaf's are winning all I see is were gonna win the cup, best team in the league and when they're losing it's fire this person, cut him, trade him, blow things up, etc. Nice to know their are some other people out there who realize a team is going to go through ups and downs throughout the season.

As for lineup discussion, does Caufield get a shot down the stretch? If so who does he move out of the lineup? I don't watch much of the Canadiens games but based off what I've saw and heard I assume it will be Byron, maybe Lehkonen?

Absolutely. This team definitely is going through a rough patch. Gallagher is our most important forward and Tatar and Danault aren’t the same without him. Petry has been struggling as of late, and Price has been injured. So when you don’t have your most important players at each position playing well/at all then of course the team is going to struggle.

And I’m certainly not loving every single move that the coach/GM makes, but I think we should wait until the end of the season before deciding what the team is.

Honestly, Staal hasn’t been great. He’s not the player he once was, although he’ll probably stay in the lineup in the hopes that he can rekindle some of his offense and also in the hopes that his experience can help come playoff time.

Weber hasn’t been that good either. Scratching him would be a bit extreme, but both the team could probably benefit from reducing his minutes.

Caufield would probably be in the lineup by now, but unfortunately we’re close to our call up limit, so the habs are holding off on calling him up in favour of more flexibility during the playoffs. He’ll likely be in the lineup if the habs get another injury at forward, or potentially during the playoffs.

I said to start the season that MTL was just an illusion and not actually a cup contender. Everyone laughed at me. This team is what it is. A bubble playoff team that can pull an upset or two, but will never go the distance. Not with this core. Some things never change in MTL

You clearly haven’t read the description. Let’s wait and see how the season ends before making pronouncements about the franchise.

I did read the description. I stated simple facts. MTL are a solid playoff team that can upset a better team, but they’re not good enough to win a cup. I don’t know how you could disagree with this.

Yeah I had heard they were both struggling just proving my point that people are so quick to make judgements and automatically want immediate and drastic change. Like imagine taking Weber out of the lineup how the team would feel. Weber is getting older and a drop in minutes could be beneficial for him and the team, is Romanov ready for a bigger role though? From what I've seen he's very promising but is still young and makes silly mistakes at times, I haven't seen much of him though so I could be way off in my assessment.

Torches and pitchforks, for goodness' sake. The phrase is "torches and pitchforks," not "knives and pitchforks." Sheesh.

Romanov has been really solid so far this year. He still has room to grow, and he’s definitely playing better than Weber right now. I think he could handle some more minutes, although the team seems to be taking it slow with his responsibility, which I can’t criticize. I’d probably do something closer to where the Petry pairing is the 1st pair, and the Weber & Romanov pairs each play about the same amount of time.

LOL. I have no idea how I ended up typing “knives”. I swear that I was thinking torches and pitchforks when I wrote this. I guess my brain & fingers got their wires crossed.

Yeah I love Petry I think he's very capable of playing 23-25 solid minutes a night and then having Romanov and Weber both at around the 18-19 mark. I think it's like this on several teams where tho they're loyal to their vets and are slow to trust rookies. Montreal has some interesting options on D and I like their team come playoffs, fairly deep, lot's of experience, will all be depending on the goaltending though. They will be a team that is interesting to see what they can do come playoffs as I think all 4 teams have reasonable shots at coming out of the North.
