That's perfect. I'd be reluctant to leave Kulak unprotected instead of Fleury but maybe that's just me.

Cale doesn't need to be protected, unless he plays 10+ nhl games which I highly doubt will happen.

That one I was on the fence about. I ended up going with Fleury since he costs less.

He still needs to be protected but doesn't count as a exposure requirement unless he plays 13 games.

Isn't that what I just said? By no means is he going to be playing the 13 games out of our remaining 14, so he will not need to be protected...

Teams have to expose two defensemen who have played an X amount of games. Cale Fleury, if left unprotected, doesn't count as one of the two defensemen. He can still be selected if he's not protected though.

I don't think that's how it works, as players who are left unprotected need to play a certain amount of games to be eligible. Hence, since Cale still needs to play 13 more games to be eligible, he will not be able to be selected even if left exposed...

and seeing as MTL will alrdy be forced into exposing 4 of 6 of either Weber/Chiarot/Kulak/Edmundson/Gustafsson/Merrill, I think they are covered from losing Cale.

I understand what you mean, but it's not it. I don't know how to word it differently. Fleury needs to play 13 games to meet the exposure requirements, that are made because you can't just let scraps to Seattle. They have to be able to select NHL players. Hence, Fleury doesn't count as one of the NHLers available, but they can still take him if he's left unprotected.

Take a look at Seattle Expansion Draft Tool on CapFriendly. Fleury is not in the same category as Suzuki and Poehling, who are both ineligible.

Reallyyy, so someone like Jordan Weal is exposed no matter what, even if he is probably not playing another game in the NHL this year? What an odd loophole

Yeah that's what I'm looking at, as it says "Players who meet or are projected to meet the exposure requirements are highlighted in green". Although Fleury is not in the same category as Suz or Poe, it shouldn't matter as he isn't highlighted and will not meet the games played requirement...

Technically, yeah. But he's a UFA anyways. It only applies to players with a certain amount of pro seasons/NHL games played. Most prospects around the league are exempt, except for a few players like Cale Fleury or Kole Lind from Vancouver.

All the players in those three columns are available for Seattle to take. Those with an X number of games on the right don't meet the exposure requirements yet, but can still be taken.

See well that's so stupid to me. So they don't meet the requirements "yet" but can still be taken? So why the hell are there requirements in the first place if SEA doesn't even have to follow them? lol

The requirements exist to make sure that some NHL caliber players are available for Seattle. Let's say we protect Kulak-Petry-Edmundson, the two NHL defensemen who meet the exposure requirements are Weber and Chiarot. They're the two NHL defensemen exposed. If they want to dig into older AHL players like Laurent Dauphin, Joseph Blandisi or Cale Fleury who is just on the verge, they can, but at least they'd have some "quality" to choose from in the first place.
